“God hates fags.â€
“You’re going to hell.â€
Fred Phelps and six fellow protestors make such claims as Matthew Snyder’s body is lowered to the ground. Snyder’s loved ones stand silently, grieving over their loss. The protestors continue.

Is this what passes as journalism?????????? The First Amendment is not absolute. It does not mean you can trample on one's freedom. Hey moron, you should take civics courses.

Ever heard of the Second Amendment? :whistling:
Damn I hate Phelps and his despicable band of family followers.
He's the crazy white guy equivalent of that idiotic Lisa Marie Bowen from Kansas City and her 40-page rant. Maybe we could sequester the two most insane people in America in Thunderdome; two go in, one comes out. Mel Gibson and Jimmy Carter-two of the most relieved people in America tonight. Mel's been topped in the crazy department and we all know who beats Jimmy hands down as the worst President ever.

The world is full crazies. :mental: Fred Phelps, Michael Crook, Lisa Marie Bowen, etc.

If such people are not free to speak up and let us know how they really think it will be very hard to identify them until they gun someone down. Phelps appears to be one of those people who project their hate onto God, assuming that if he hates someone so must God. Such people just don't get that God has an infinitely broader mind than they do, and is motivated by love and mercy, whereas these people are motivated by hate and ignorance.

No where in the constitution is the guarantee that we won't be offended by someone else's speech. We all know that. And that applies to the Phelps clan just as much as it applies to our speech. Are they wrong? Definitely. Do they have the right to be loud, obnoxious, and wrong? Definitely. That said, in most places, there are now thousands of counter-protesters to block them from the grieving families, which is also the right of the people.
If we don't tolerate their speech, what will be the next level of speech we won't tolerate?

Yup... Phelps and his ilk have the right to free speech.
But I look forward to the day when some grieving family member stomps him into the ground.
It might well be worth the assualt charge.
Temporary insanity would be the appropriate defense.

Fred Phelps has all the rights and previliges due to any American. He how ever doesn't have the right to expect to not suffer the consequences from his actions. If anyone were to go up to a black man and yell the N word to him, he or she has no expectations that they will not get stomped into the next week. I hate everything Phelps has done. His group even came here to protest four dead people killed when they were run down by a drunk driver that had a BAC 4 times the legal limit. How hatefull do you have to be to protest a funeral for the victims of that.
