Title: If you don't like looking at blood and Deer, don't look in here.

Got this one on the south pastures Saturday morning. We did get another this morning (Sunday) but like a dufus I forgot the camera.

Frank, I'll be up here all week, and returning home on Friday.

Ah...rifle season starts the 21st in Oklahoma. I might go out there. We've got a feeder and some saltlicks set up on the family land. My uncle's been out bowhunting it for the past month. He burned his doe tag already. The game camera says there are two smaller bucks (4 and 6 pointer) roaming out there and a monster 10-pointer + that got his image captured a couple of times.

Because we needed the Whitetail.

I've got to head back to work tomorrow (Saturday) but Dad and Mike will still be hunting this weekend. We still can hang five more deer. We already have five skinned and hanging in the shop. We took 50 lbs of meat to Valentine, NE to be made into sausage (Frank can tell you where that is) off of the first buck. We had our Traditional Heart and Liver cook tonight.

My favorate rifle. It's a 1903 Springfield (30.06) with a Redfield scope. I've used this rifle for the last 30 years.

Dutch, that's a nice rifle.

I use either an old Winchester 94 that my grandfather bought in 1950 (and my SIL was adamant about my brother not keeping) in .30 WCF (.30-30 for those who don't know), or a first-year production Remington Model 7 in .308 Winchester.  It has the Schnabel front end on the one-piece stock.  Both have accounted for deer for me.

All these gee-whizbang weapons out there--and it's the old (and reliable, IMO) ones we keep turning to.

Unlike in most parts of the country, you don't sit in a tree stand and wait for the deer to come to you out here in Western Nebraska. This is looking south towards the Niobrara River, about 15 miles west of Merriman, NE and 12 miles south.

We got the first deer about a further 15 miles south, deep in the Sand Hills. We stepped off the range and it was a tad under 250 yards. The second deer we go off a corn pivot (An irrigation circle) at about 200 yards. The 30.06, using 180 grain rounds, dropped them in their tracts.

I have to head back this morning to my 'real' life. We have Thanksgiving Dinner plans at the Base Chief Master Sergeant's house, or whatever you zoomies cal the Post Command Sergeant Major. Then I am off for fun and adventure for two weeks before Christmas.

Got to get the tree and stuff set up. Here, Hobgoblins the Cat sits in her tree stand waiting for the big Whitetail to walk by.

Nice photos, dutch.

Got skunked Sat. and Sun. morning. Had 2 does wander into range, but that was it. Gonna go out Thurs. morning and see if the massive cold front moving in Wed. night riles them up.

Saw lots of dead deer in the frozen Iowa tundra as well.

Unfortunately, most of them had wrecked cars near them.
