What prevents America from becoming a totally left-leaning social democracy?
- The right as too much money to use against us?
- The vast majority of American citizens don't know any better?
- Too many co-opted institutions?
- A secret government plotting against us?
What's your take on this... Why isn't the left in firm control in America and what can be done to change the situation?
It is pretty simple for those that are not idiots.
We enjoy freedom and opportunity...the left never offers or results in that.

1. Americans does not want to lean left?
Edited on Fri Nov-12-10 11:22 PM by krawhitham
Half the people right now think Obama is too left
face it America at this moment not does not want to lean left. I believe it is because the Dems are poor at getting their views across. People are lemmings and the conservative media/repugs are driving the message right now
"Even though it has failed for 100 years it is because we just haven`t tried hard enough."

2. Wow.....where to start?
Fear....misuse of religion....but mostly, greed. And the incredible effectiveness on propaganda on the masses. And mistrust of intellect....and...and...(I suspect that all through history it is a small progressive group that has dragged the masses kicking and screaming forward into progress!).
What makes sense to we as Democrats is utterly incomprehensible to those on the right, I believe, for any one or several of the reasons above.

21. We just did that through refusing to participate once it was clear that
there was no representation of our position.
It's not wishy-washy to see no alternative and to refuse to participate. We've done it before and we will do it again and again and again until there is a reasonable chance of achievement. Obama promised that and we came out big. He failed to deliver and we withdrew as before.

35. "until there is a reasonable chance of achievement"
What makes you think there will ever be a reasonable chance of achievement? If you have to do something again and again and again, and it fails and fails and fails, shouldn't that be a signal to you that your strategy is a failed strategy, and that it doesn't work (no matter how much you wish it did)?
You just answered Dorkios question in the OP and don`t even know it.

10. Attendent belief in
American Exceptionalism - liberty, egalitarianism, individualism, populism and laissez-faire
and
the Protestant Work Ethic (Max Weber; can't really be reduced to a one-liner)?
Both reject - philosophically - the sort of social democracy to which you refer.
Just a thought . . .
Walking on thin ice there DUmmy, that won`t go over well.

15. People in America still believe that liberalism is bad.
The RW has blamed liberalism for everything going wrong in society. Some in America believe this crap and raise their kids into Hitler Youth with the knowledge.
To make America right again, we need a de-Rovification of politics and the airwaves. Rove's perverse and anti-social personality has constructed an America too scared of its own shadow when it comes to permissiveness. He constructed an authoritarian paradise in which the patriarchy rules and the people can't take care of themselves. By creating a weak-willed society, it allows the true powers that be an easy path to get as much power and money as they can. It's a crying shame how the propaganda has molded total obedience under the falsity of being "fair and balanced".
Sounds more like what dependence on big government creates and the liberal elite that exploit them.

17. first, we're not even a real democracy.
second, we are the most thoroughly propagandized and controlled society in the (modern) world, even though most people are blissfully oblivious of that fact.

19. The successful lie that the totalitarian authoritarianism of the USSR, China, etc. represent
"the left". Half a century of ubiquitous propaganda can indeed warp a people into destroying themselves for the benefit of their enemies. We are living proof.
Truth is hard to argue with isn`t it.

20. The reason why America isn't moving to the left is because...
the "liberal" media won't shut the **** up about the Teatard movement. Seriously, if Jon Stewart hosts a rally of a quarter of a million people, there is hardly any coverage at all. But if there is a Teatard protest of about 50 people, it's front page news. Seriously, these dipshits represent less than 1% of the US population. Nobody with any intelligence whatsoever cares about them and their stupid little protests. Sadly, as the recent elections have shown, many Americans are devoid of any intelligence, and are constantly brainwashed by the M$M into voting for the Repigs

The lack of laws mandating the ingestion of hallucinogens?

Genetics.
Our ancestors are the ones that left the kings, cardinals, bureaucrats, and assorted other potentates of Europe. They got on tiny rickety wooden ships and at great risk crossed an ocean to go to a place where it was mostly a wilderness with a sometimes hostile native population. They struggled to make a life for themselves out of more or less nothing. People like that, and their descendants, aren't going to knuckle under easily for anybody.

Guns?
And people willing to use them . . .

DUmmies,
Even if you weren't unenlightened leeches trying to suck up the country's resources as if you're somehow owed the fruits of other people's hard work, perhaps they might be more inclined to listen if you weren't so arrogant. If you and yours were that intelligent you would've found a way to take what you haven't earned by now and made everyone think you were oh so benevolent. After all, how hard is it to lead stupid people you're supposedly better than?
You want people to have "things" based on income (or lack thereof) instead of from their own labors. There are enough able bodied people who would be content to let someone else work while they sit on their asses (or pretend they're artists or something) to make such a system unworkable. It isn't in my best interest to work hard to have my money confiscated before I've even seen it to give to someone who refuses to work or who thinks they're the next Diego Rivera but don't even have enough talent to do a paint by number velvet Elvis.
You always talk about greed as if the "right" is evil for wanting to keep what they've worked hard for. But, you want to talk greed...how about taking someone else's money while you sit around bitching about not having enough and demanding more. Just because you don't make as much as Donald Trump doesn't mean you're entitled to a piece of his pie. Greed isn't a bad thing, it just means looking out for you and yours is what's most important because we're better at caring for those we love than some anonymous federal bureaucracy who not only sees me as a number but judges me by dollar signs.
Oh, and if you need proof of how "effective" your system works, oh enlightened basement dwellers...look at Greece and France. How's that "best interest" socialism working out for them?

Because the Founding Fathers and the Constitution didn't set us up as a "democracy" but as a Republic you ass monkey.
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

About 60% of America is conservative. Go back to your bongs, Cheetos and Kieff Odorman.

Not only the gun, but the person behind it.
Many of the primitives have posted they they know that those on the right will not hesitate in using violence to protect our country from being taken over by all enemies, foreign and domestic. That fear keeps them in check for the most part.
The biggest problem that the DUmbasses on the island face is their inability to face reality. They have 7 thousand DUmmy's that think that the world outside of the island, everyone is just like they are. They really believe that liberals are the majority.
