Cool story...
Rise of Freedom: Going Full Circle
John Conigliaro works high above the lower Manhattan skyline and appreciates his unobstructed views of the Statue of Liberty. He tells Fox News, "I like to look out and see the Verrazano Bridge from the site - and clear as day the Statue of Liberty ... It’s a feeling of awe."
This 23-year-old is an ironworker apprentice for Local 580 and works on the upper floors of 1 World Trade Center. When the building is completed it will be the tallest building in America.
~snip~
Five years after the terror attacks destroyed the Twin Towers, John followed his heart and joined the Marines as a reservist. He knew he would be sent to war.
"My father and mother were in the Air Force and we grew up in a military family. ...You want to fight for your country. You want to do something," he explains to Fox News.
He went to Iraq in 2007 on a six-month deployment and volunteered to stay a year.

Good story, he'll probably be collecting social security before there is a building there, but good story.

Not if they put us in charge. We could get it done in 5 years. Easily. Tell a Marine it can't be done...and we'll do it.

How inspiring.
I wasn't aware that they started building our new WTC yet. Can't wait to see what it looks like when complete. I'll need to start saving up money to go out to NYC for it's grand opening. :)
That can go on a bucket list.

Great story! I hadn't heard of Helmets to Hardhats before.
"Helmets to Hardhats stepped in to help service members find jobs in the construction business. Anne Trenkle works in the New York office and helps soldiers or Marines like John find their niche in construction."
"We have to send out a message that we didn't let you tear us down. We are always going to rebuild. No matter how many times you knocked down a building or take us out, we are going to get back up and stand up and spit in your eye."
Now, THAT's a spirited guy!

You must be kidding. The pits where the old Towers stood will be massive rememberance pools surrounded by lush vegetation. And new skyscrapers are being erected.

What do you mean?
I remember hearing plans about building a new WTC. But I thought I also remembered hearing it was being "put on hold until further notice" or whatever.
Am I missing something?

I get NYC Port Authority updates weekly on the progress of the constuction of the new WTC. I lost my Aunt on 9-11 in the South Tower so I like to keep up on the latest developments of the rebuilding.

Awesome, totally awesome!!

True Mrs Smith, however I look at those wonderful Pools of water and wonder--how on a 100 degree day are the police to keep the thousands of inner city kids from jumping in to cool off.
How many homeless will jump in to bath or even wash clothing.
I think of this because on my High school class trip to DC the day was so hot a bunch of us jumped into a fountain and splashed about to cool off. I wonder if the fountain was the one Fanny Fox played in years later.
