My wife and I are opposites on this.  She dislikes musicals, and I actually enjoy them.  Generally, it is the other way around, or so I am told.

I once made her listen to the Fiddler on the Roof soundtrack for three hours on a road trip down to Florida.  I didn't get that CD back for two years. :naughty:

Wizard of Oz

What? Was there singing in that? I only remember one or two, but I wouldn't count that as musical.

A Chorus Line.  Never saw it.  My Mom and StepDad did, and my Mom loved it so much, she bought the album.  I played it over and over and over again, and memorized every song.

Musicals I have seen?  West Side Story, and Sound of Music.

None.

I don't mind playing/performing the soundtracks to them (Steven Sondheim is especially good), but don't ask me to actually sit through one and watch it.  Lights out, baby, here come the snores.

Dude, much of the story and character development is advanced through song.  It is a total musical.  Just watch it again.

I haven't seen it since I was a kid and it used to be on every year.

It's a double musical if you watch it with the Pink Floyd album.  Which I have never bothered to do.

Musicals I have seen more than once:  Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Rent, Les Miserables, Chorus Line, and  Sweeney Todd.  I think I've seen all of them at least once (on and off Broadway!)

Do I win?  :-)

The music in Rocky Horror is awesome.

It is.  Glee did an awesome job on it a couple of weeks ago.

As for musicals, Oklahoma! isn't bad.  I've got a copy of a production that my niece was in, as one of the leads.  The kid is good.  Obviously, musical ability skipped her mother (my sister).

Only tons of singing:
Somewhere Over the Rainbow
All the munchkin songs
Follow the Yellowbrick Rd.
If I only had a Brain
If I only had a Heart
If I only had the Nerve
If I were King of the Forest
Ding Dong the Witch is Dead
We're off to see the Wizard...

First one I was to see was West side story.      Got me hooked.

Then south pacific, that I went bonkers over because the director used the weird coloring for the song Bally High.    really pissed me off.

Then Hair, Jesus Christ super star,  Cabaret, Fiddler on the roof, Chicago that Hubby has watched 20 times, and perhaps 10 more that don't come to mind at this time.

Then the TV Xmas shows especially the one with the Elf that wants to be a dentist, Ah so soon they will be played again this year.

All the old time movies b&w with dancing and the WW2 movies with the USO as a topic.

Bob Hope and Bing Crosby in the road movies, the westerns with Gean Autery or Roy Rogers.

My mom went to Las Vegas today to see The Lion King (http://www.mandalaybay.com/entertainment/LionKing.aspx?ef_id=0olM4OL4AwAAEHA:20101115073624:s) in Las Vegas with friends. They had an extra ticket and they wanted me to go, but I have a little bit of a health issue going on and needed some rest...they sat in the "house seats" and were really close...

She really enjoyed it.

Probably Rocky Horror because I still go and still watch it a few times a year. As much as I enjoy the time warp (again), Meatloaf's song is the best. It's shown around here every Halloween. We used to go every weekend when I was in college. Did the whole costume thing and everything. Died my hair redder to be a more authentic Magenta. But really there's so many musicals I just love, especially the older ones: Gigi, Carousel, Oklahoma. But this one always brings a lump to my throat. Grizabella can steal your heart and Betty Buckley has a voice to die for:

I was raised on soundtrack records so I never thought of them as gay at all, I guess you have to be raised around a bunch of gay people to pick that up...

But I'm a lot bigger on the soundtracks than the actual musicals, I have to admit.  The Music Man, Phantom of the Paradise, Tommy, The Wall, My Fair Lady, Rocky Horror, all fun to watch.  I also really like the music from Gilbert and Sullivan's Mikado, Pirates of Penzance, and HMS Pinafore.  Oklahoma, I like the music but the show kinda goes on somewhat longer than I want to watch it.
