The OP was about children of deployed soldiers having more problems than others. Here is a real winner:

2. Going to war is a form of child abuse
Edited on Tue Nov-09-10 02:55 AM by Bragi
Seriously, what is a parent of young children thinking when they voluntarily decide to sign up for a job that will take them away on dangerous foreign missions while their families are left behind to spend every day worrying about their absent loved one?
And what are we as a society thinking when we make an effort to target for recruitment people who are parents of young children for service in our unending stream of aggressive occupations and shooting wars?
I don't know what others call it when someone leaves their children to worry every hour of every day about whether their parent will survive the day, but I know what I call it: it's a form of child abuse.
Google search term to prove that free speech no longer exists in America -- "Molly Norris"
****ing DUmbass.

4. It's still child abuse
Edited on Tue Nov-09-10 03:11 AM by Bragi
You make a good point that many people with small children go into the military because they lack any other opportunity. I regret that this is indeed the case. However, the end result is still a form of child abuse.
I'd just like us to call it what it is. If this doesn't shame us into deciding that our wars and our bloated military are unacceptable, then it is our shame. The children of soldiers who are among the victims of our wars still suffer abuse.
For my part, I think it takes more guts for parents to refuse to be sucked into the military than it does to join up and let your kids suffer the consequences.

9. I'm not promoting hatred against parents
I understand there is a big difference between a mandatory military draft situation, and a voluntary decision by a parent to sign up for war, despite its adverse impact on their children.

16. And if you have children...
Edited on Tue Nov-09-10 04:01 AM by Bragi
They would suffer in consequence of your decision to re-enlist.
To be clear, they would also suffer adverse consequences from being raised in a low income household. But I think that if you left it to your loved ones to decide which they might dread most -- being low income, or worrying every day about your safety and your life -- then they may well choose to do without a few things they'd like to have, rather than risk worrying about, and maybe facing, life without you forever.

15. We could be honest with them about their choices
I think we could be honest with parents who show up to enlist by making it clear that a decision to enlist will most likely be harmful to the mental health of their children and their spouses.
In other words, we could be honest with them about the impact of their decision on their loved ones.
I think one way of doing this would be for some of the peace groups to start talking openly and honestly about this aspect of our growing "neo-warrior" culture.
Far as I can tell, most people, including people who openly advocate peace, are afraid to speak the truth about this.

7. Why can't parents "Just Say No" to going to war?
You make it sound like it would be impossible for a parent to say: "I know I could be looked after comfortably if I signed up, but the effect on my kids could be devastating, so I will find some other way of making a living?"

23. Lots of people move around
But why should kids have to spend their days worrying if someone might show up at their doorstep telling them that their parent has been killed?
That's a dreadful burden to put on a child.

Yet if you were to point out the single paranthood rate among black women and the fact that inner city black males are little more then predators you would be called a racist at the DUmp.

I'm guessing Bragi was passed around like a bar girl by a bunch of grunts on their first R&R in six months.
Either that or hasn't the first ****ing clue of which they speak. Oh, hell--why not both?
-
Cowards one and all.
-
Yes because a steady income and health insurance is a bad thing. My military service (as well as DH's) provide a nice life for my kid that he could not have had if I stayed in the civilian world.
-
So i guess all the police officers and firefighters are abusing their children too.
I have yet to meet child or spouse of an armed forces member that wasn't proud of what their father, husband or wife was doing.
-
Sure, being in the military is NOT going to make one "wealthy", however, it isn't a terrible lifestyle. Bragi knows little of what it speaks...
-
My cousin met his first wife while they were both serving in the Navy. They both survived their service just fine, it was a drunk driver that killed her.
I've had several friends who've joined the military, and so far, thank God, none of them have been injured in any way. However, I had another high school friend who died in a car accident when another driver went into a diabetic coma while he was driving.
Life is dangerous, period. There is no way to guarantee that a child will never lose their parent. To say that a parent who chooses a high risk occupation is abusive has to be one of the most ridiculous statements I've ever heard.
-
It goes even farther than that. I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that they go by those who have SOUGHT or been OFFERED counseling, and given the fact that military families have much better access to all levels of healthcare, including family counseling/mental healthcare, a kid who sees a counselor because they miss daddy for being gone a year is suddenly "proof"?
Spare me the histrionics, libtards. We take care of our own. We're not perfect, but we're a damn sight better than your self-serving asses can ever hope to achieve.

That was my line of thinking as well. I was raised an AF Brat. I was always proud of my Dad. Even when the mean Marine and Army kids picked on me.
Mom said that the only issue was that when I was young, and went to the Commisary, I would run up to every man in uniform and scream DADDY! (Their wives were apparently not amused.)

Then don't EVER leave the ****ing house for ANY REASON!!!
The scenario you just described could happen if mummy or daddy goes down to 7-11 FOR A GALLON OF MILK!!!!
:whatever:

The DUmmies don't get it. When HE says it's your time, it's your time. It doesn't matter who or where you are.

Ranting, raving, demeaning and calling a childs father a murderer of innocent women and children....Now that's child abuse.

That's all it comes down to. The DUmmies/libs hate the military. They are just using the "child abuse" as a scapegoat to voice their hatred.

Agreed. I think I'm going to stick this in the "posts that stand alone" thread.

Bragi, die in a fire, .........................please.

So I'm a child abuser as well as a baby killer?
That's pretty funny coming from a bunch of Pedo defending abortionists.

Can someone please save my soon to be (has his board this weekend, yes I am bragging) Eagle Scout son from his horrible upbringing?

Congratulations to your soon to be Ealgle Scout.
I, myself, am off to pick up son and go to the library for some work on his Citizenship in the World merit badge. What he turned in last night on the lack of free speech in Muslim countries didn't suit his Scout Master.

Ya know what? I started a post but words just failed me. Congrats to the scouting successes just above, and my unending thanks to all the military people. You make excellent examples to your children. None better.

Don't get me started on how I could tell what scouts were from lib homes. Back in 2008 I asked them who their senators were. Three of them said Obama. Too bad we were in Virginia at the time.

They had Warner and Webb, not much better.

Thanks for the well wishes for my son. He is autistic and refused to be cut any slack because of it. He did exactly what any other boy had to do. He worked hard and deserves all the praise that he gets. Even if he does need the occasional foot in the hind end. But he is a teenager after all. LOL
Damn that military influence!

And you probably won't hear from either of them for at least a week. :naughty:

Being a military brat first and a spouse next I would love to have 5 minutes alone and no witnesses to "talk" to her.

I told her in a few days when they come up for air to tell him Welcome Home and Thank You for me. :-)

Awesome posts in here.
I think it's appropriate to say THANK YOU for your service and dedication to all the past, present and future persons of the U.S. military! :)

Child abuse for joining the Military? WTF over. What is living in Detroit and DC and east and South LA then? Those places are just as dangerous as someplaces in Iraq. ****ing traitors all of them.
-
I wonder what those filthy parasites at the DU would think of taking their children to something like say a "protest meeting" , or a commune , or "Alternative Community" or what not.
All well and good to expose their kids to sexual depravity, violence and drug use- but not to show them how to be a law abiding citizen serving the country with honor.
Twisted.

More so. IIRC, someone compared the murder/death rates in Iraq and found out that the murder rate was actually HIGHER in cities like Memphis, DC, Detroit, and parts of LA.

:cheersmate: on your son getting to the Eagle Scout level.
My oldest sone got his IIRC three years ago.
It's a shame the negative influence our military service is having on these kids.

A girl at work, her husband came home from Iraq after over a year....we didn't hear from them for 2 weeks. :naughty:
-
And here I thought they were going to be talking about how abusive it is for young people to join. I wonder if they'd have a similar conversation about a parent being in a gang, a drug addict, or being in jail for most of their childhood. At least the child of the service member have the pride of knowing their parent is serving a cause greater than themselves and learn things like honor, duty, and patriotism.

The stupid is REALLY STRONG from them. :mental: Someone in the streets of either Chicago or Detroit has a better chance of getting killed than a soldier in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Wish I hadn't seen this thread. Just completely ruined my day. Pissed me off so damn much.
