Title: Time traveler spied in 1928 Chaplin film
Post by: Chris_ on October 30, 2010, 01:02:35 PM
Quote
An Irish independent filmmaker has gone public with what he says is footage of a time traveller caught walking through a scene on a recent DVD release of Charlie Chaplin's 1928 film, The Circus.

"I believe I'm the first person to find something quite unusual from a bit of film footage from 1928," Clarke said. The scene can be found in the extras menu in Documents, under The Hollywood Premiere.

It's not in the movie -- it's real footage and it features real members of the public in 1928. Or does it, asked Clarke, who spotted a mysteriously dressed stranger walking past the camera talking into what he says can only be a mobile phone.

"The only conclusion I can come to -- which sounds absolutely ridiculous I'm sure, to some people -- is it's a time traveller," he said. "When you're looking at a bit of 1928 footage with an old woman ... on a mobile phone, it's kind of strange. You can't explain it."

Watch the video in full-screen mode at the highest resolution (480).  Very interesting... :tinfoil2:

They can build a time machine but can't afford hands-free?  They also had a time-travelling cell tower?  It's a transdimensional handheld?

Yah right.  I don' think so.

Just because Hitlery "outed" the VRWC in 1994, doesn't mean we were created at that "point" in time...

(p.s. Chaplin was a senior card carrying member...)

Maybe it's a satellite phone.

Note to lurking DUmmies and CTers, that was dry Chris wit, since there would be a slight but insurmountable technical problem connecting through a comsat in 1928...

It could be true, as long as she wasn't too far from a fire hydrant  http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=26165

Presuming comsat was the ONLY sat in orbit at the time.

VRWC sats excluded of course...

gotta be an ear trumpet.

I think it's the movement and mannerisms that instantly make us think "cell phone".

I think it is too close to her head to be an ear trumpet and who is she talking to?  It looks like a man in a woman's costume, the gait in his walk and the body shape looks like a man.  Why couldn't it be like a 2-way radio or some other sort of communicator?  Then again I watch A LOT of sci fi.

After watching this about a dozen times I have come to a conclusion.

This is indeed a man dressed as a woman.

The left hand to the head hides the face from the side.

Later the person turns to face the camera and smiles and mouths some words.

My guess is this is a practical joke being played on someone off screen.

Could be someones father or old friend of  anyone from the director of the film to the best boy had not seen in years.

This is a fun Hollywood joke, remember how Alfred Hitchcock put himself or shadow in some of his films.?

The fact that this story even got as much attention as it did is proof that the mainstream media is about as dead as the TV tube replacement machine, bottle returns at supermarkets, and the 8-track stereo.

Hey now, I still got some of both.
