WTF is wrong with this country? Updated at 9:01 AM
Boston, MA was number one in a recent poll about smart and dumb cities. We came out smart, but this article tells me that bigotry, selfishness and 'me too' thinking is alive and well in western Mass.
How can people treat others this way? Why do we constantly turn on our brothers and sisters?
Like I said, "WTF is wrong with this country?"
‘Jungle’ clearing
By David Abel
Globe Staff / October 30, 2010
GREENFIELD — In the copse beside the old rails, hidden by foliage falling from large oaks and birches, are the relics of drifters who have dwelt in these woods for decades: abandoned fire pits, discarded suitcases, ruined tree houses, and weathered tarps, among mounds of other detritus.
Since perhaps as far back as the Great Depression, the site known as “the jungle’’ has served as a temporary home to hobos who hopped the north-south and east-west freight lines that intersect at the nearby East Deerfield Rail Yard, the state’s largest depot for freight trains. In recent years, as the economy has stagnated and the area’s homeless population has grown, the woods have become home to those who prefer not to stay in overcrowded shelters.
Now, after so many years of tolerating the secluded encampments a short walk from the historic downtown, officials in this 257-year-old city have decided to do away with what they consider an eyesore and a potential trouble spot. Citing a burgeoning population in the woods and $90 million in new railway investments from the company that owns the tracks, they have vowed to sweep the area of its remaining inhabitants and cut as many trees as possible to make it less appealing to dwellers.
Local authorities told the residents this week that their tents would be torn down and that bulldozers would move in as soon as today.
“Even though it’s been happening for a long time, that doesn’t make it right; it’s illegal, improper, and unsafe,’’ said Mayor William Martin, who was elected last year. “The idea that we will continue to turn the cheek is not something I’m willing to do. It’s not something the community should ignore.’’

Yes, absolutely.
Awesome, Mrs. Smith.

I've been asking that question for the last four years, particularly the last two.

WTF is wrong with this country?
WTF is wrong with YOU?

If you have to ask, then you haven't been paying attention.
Just jerking your chain.

And lord zero is helping the situation by doing what DUmmie?!? What good has he done for this Country?! Did you know that homelessness went up 50% in NYC, DUmmie?! The only thing he has done is set us back financially. The American dream seems so far and distant to people because of anti-capitalist thinking. He's made a mockery of this Country. And you ask what is wrong with this Country? Man, you need to educate yourself a little better than just ask stupid questions.
-
WTF is wrong with YOU?
He's a liberal and a dumb one at that.

Gene or no gene, one has to choose to go with the tendancies.

WTF is wrong with YOU?
Here is a little experiment DUmmie UHC can try.
Statistically speaking, it has been determined that 1 out of every 5 people are DUmbasses.
So pick out 4 of your friends. If they are OK, then it's YOU!

Despite all their outrage and pouting and railing against "the rich" and their odd interpretation of Jesus's teachings as being aimed toward governments rather than individuals, I don't see any of them offering to personally help any of these people. I suppose they think their nobility lies in frothing on a message board about the injustice of it all, haranguing the gubmint and advocating robbing of others for entitlement programs that may or may not ever come to fruition. That doesn't seem in keeping with the philosophy of "direct action" they so often tout. I suppose that's because they spend all their money on flowers for anti-Semitic old journalists, donating to Skinner's vacation fund and traveling to rallies where they can commiserate with other, equally vapid liberal idealists.
Meanwhile, conservatives, those with the means, are taking care of their extended families who have fallen on hard times, because we haven't alienated and abandoned them based on their political beliefs. We're donating to charities that distribute their help without the encumbrance of dozens of layers of bureaucracy. We're advocating for a business-friendly government under which real, long term jobs and careers can be created rather than temporary civil make-work jobs that create nothing but more taxes and intrusive authority. We're demanding real action on the insane levels of illegal immigration that robs Americans of jobs and siphons money out of the U.S. and back to Mexico. We're pushing for a smaller, streamlined, more efficient government that reduces fraud and waste and makes it easier for those truly in need to receive assistance.
You tell me which model best serves the long- and short-term interests of the folks in the DUmmy's story.

Yes, because WESTERN Mass is such a bastion of conservatism.
Asshat. BTW--been in Boston and walked around listening to people drop "n-bombs" all day long? I have. Pretty sickening, actually.
