After a ton of tweaking and listening, over and over and over again, the score to this TV theme music is finally ready for Harmonium Brass, my brass quintet.
I had initially started this project, finding that there wasn't ANYTHING on the web anywhere to this chart, except for some piano music which was essentially useless, and an mp3 to the original score. I took what they had and began to arrange the piece, but I found myself quickly over my head and called upon a good friend of mine and fellow Army retiree to take what I had and fix it.
He did so, but put the score in the key of c minor, which makes things a little out of reach for the trumpet players. (Hey, we all know that trumpet players are weenies.... :-) ), so I took it from there and transposed it down to the key of a minor, which makes things doable for the lead player. (Hey, he's 58 years old and has 58-year-old chops.)
This arrangement is pretty faithful to the original full score (not the 30-second blurb you hear on TV), except for the guitar solo in it, which we won't do, of course. We are bringing in a drummer, though, which is not normally a part of a normal brass quintet. Hey, maybe we'll start a revolution of sorts...... :lmao:
So here's page 1 of the score. We've rehearsed it and it's a go for our concert of Jan. 22.

No recording yet - won't have that for a couple-few weeks yet. I tried posting a copy of the mp3 of the score but it exceeds the 650 kb max.
Is there someplace on the innerwebz I can post an mp3 and link it? I've done the photobucket thing a few dozen times, but that works only with .jpg and similar photo-type files.

This piece was a bitch for a few reasons:
The orchestra that recorded the original score was a small ORCHESTRA. That means a couple of flutes, a couple clarinets, small string section (no more than 2-2-1-1, really), 4 horns, 3 trombones, 4 trumpets, electric bass, guitar, drums, timpani, and probably a freakin' set of bongos in there. Kinda hard to compress all of that into five voices, six with the drummer that we're bringing in.
Speakin' of the drummer, he'll do a 4-bar solo right at the beginning (just like the original), and he'll do a drum break in place of the original guitar solo. The drum break occurs just before the cascading lines taking the piece to its conclusion (sounds sorta empty at that spot).
Chord prog goes from a minor to Bb minor to b minor back to a minor.

I use Windows Movie Maker to convert mp3 files to wmv and upload them to YouTube.

I'm not familiar with the settings on filefreak, but I'll bet you need to make your score "public" or something like that.

Not sure what you mean by "access denied", but this score is running fine. Just checked it a minute ago.
Last time I uploaded anything to Youtube it took 30 minutes, a six-pack of coke, and a trip to the bathroom before anything happened. Major league PITA.
This filefreak thing couldn't have been easier. And no, Thor, this mp3 file is located in "My Documents" on filefreak, which is set to "private". Only I can access it, according to the site.

Seriously, I didn't know that the file couldn't be accessed. Lemme take another look at it. Didn't even think about it, actually.
ETA: I reset the folder so that it can be accessed by the public. Try it now.

OK, was able to listen to it. It seemed as if the intro/ first part was dragging a bit. Then it picked up later in the piece. Was that done on a keyboard or just parts of it?? And there was a part that the chords overrode the melody way too much. But what do I know........ ??

Lemme 'splain it to you, since you were so nice to me by beating me about the head and shoulders about the filefreak thing. :tazeme:
What you heard is a SYNTHESIZED mp3 made directly from the score's software. IOW, you didn't hear PEOPLE performing, you heard ones and zeros performing!
I use Finale 2011. This notation software has the capability of taking your score, putting a somewhat-similar digitized "voice" to each of your "instruments" in your score, taking the tempo that YOU assigned to it, and then playing it. You can create .wav or .mp3 files with it as well.
So you didn't hear any tempos dragging. And you didn't hear any chords overriding the melody, unless you had your damn speakers turned up too loud!
(In fairness, the software reacts also to dynamics embedded within.)

Unfortunately, that ain't Harmonium Brass playin' the tune. That's the software playin' the tune. Consequently, the video isn't entirely truthful.
(I hope like hell I'm not bombarded with emails about this.)
Oh, at the risk of pimping Harmonium Brass, we do have some poorly executed samples in a pretty-well complete web site that my stepson put together. (And lest ye fret, my dear Thor, he's gonna teach me how to edit the thing over the Thanksgiving holiday. Dreamweaver is apparently the be-all, end-all.)

I can't replay it right now as "Inga" is sleeping. But I'm pretty sure that the first part, from the intro to the change seemed slower (as in "dragging") than from the change to the end. I was THINKING it was synthesized, but there were a couple of places that were good enough that made me wonder.
BTW, nice website!! (Probably better than I can do) Also, I MUST take exception to the Treble Clef mouseover........

Yeah, I thought Andrew did a helluva job - it was his first website he'd ever done, so it was a practice thing for him. But he done good!
Well as there are 3 guys in HB who do the treble clef thing, Larry and I were outvoted. :banghead:
I hope to have a viable recording of H50 in the next couple of weeks or so. I have a local sound engineer to come in and actually spin the knobs and such for us. I'm sure he'll do far, far better than I can do.

You did. That synthesizer does a good job at emulating SOME brass instruments. I guess that means "kudos" to your synthesizer.
