Obama anti-bullying message called 'symbolic'
Washington (CNN) -- An anti-bullying video message from President Barack Obama is symbolic, the founder of the "It Gets Better" project said Friday, but the president "has the power to do more."
"The administration does say all the right things, but we don't see the action to back up these words," Dan Savage told CNN's "American Morning."
Obama taped the message in the wake of several recent suicides by young people who were being bullied or taunted for being gay. The White House released the video, which appears on the website itgetsbetterproject.com, late Thursday night.
"We've got to dispel this myth that bullying is just a normal rite of passage, that it's some inevitable part of growing up. It's not," Obama says.
Savage, who's also a nationally syndicated columnist, said he hopes the message "serves as a wake-up call" to bullies.
"We finally have a reckoning about the hate rhetoric that sloshes around the culture directed at lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender adults and children," Savage added.

It is NOT okay to tell a kid that he's a faggot, when he himself has no clue WTF he is. It is NOT okay to tell a kid that she would be better off if she grew a penis and facial hair. It is NOT okay to tell these kids that these freaks of nature are normal.

Now how do we run out of town the Professional child therapists that encourage parents to get hormone treatments for 12 year olds that believe they may be gay ???
Darn I was a tom boy at that age and wanted a Penis just so I could Win in a pissing contest. Had my parents paid attention to today's phyco-babble back then, I would have grown up to be a woman in a mans body, or a born female that has had their sex changed to a males body and kept the growing and expanding female brain.
In other words my parents instead of a dare devil daughter with a husband and 4 kids would have a Gay male son/ daughter.
Eupher I sure hope you can make heads and tails out of my post, Some of these new age ideas and changes in the culture I was raised into have made what was good-is now bad, what was bad- is now good.
I can see it taking a few generations for changes to gradually happen, but now we are down to months to accept or reject ----spooky.

You're making good sense at the moment, and the thing that we're both talking about and rejecting outright is the idea that it's bad for kids to be confused.
Kids, especially adolescents, are confused about EVERYTHING. That's a natural part of growing up and it's perfectly normal. So you now get these fudgepackers and rug munchers that think it's perfectly fine to zero in on these kids in an attempt to confuse them about their budding sexuality. Their meddling confuses them even more than they would be if they'd just sort things out on their own or, if the issue is acute enough, with their parents.
Yeah, I know. In many cases the parent isn't around. Some family member is, however. And it's far better for a kid to get his information from a family member than some wacko who insists on introducing that confused kid to sex of a different sort.
Say what you will - but a kid doesn't know enough about what he is or where he's going with his sex life until he's mature enough to handle it. The law says in most places that legal age for that kind of decision is 18. Even then, we all know that most young men aren't capable of emotionally handling what their body is telling them IN SPADES.
