Fired NPR analyst was disciplined for making ‘inappropriate’ sexual comments to female staffers

Edited on Fri Oct-22-10 09:47 AM by Ian David
Sexually-themed comments about female Washington Post staff apparently went on for years

Juan Williams, the NPR contributor who was fired Thursday after making anti-Muslim comments on Fox News, apologized for "wrong" and "inappropriate" comments about women staffers after a 1991 investigation by The Washington Post, Raw Story has found.

The investigation of Williams' conduct stemmed from multiple occasions on which he made sexually-themed comments to female employees. An article published about the incidents was vague about what comments Williams actually made, though it makes clear that the sexually-oriented remarks came up on numerous occasions -- and that his behavior had allegedly gone on for several years.

It's also apparent that the female staff of The Washington Post was so incensed about how the paper was dealing with it that they brought their concerns to management.

<snip>

One Post magazine editor went so far as to say that Juan Williams "was obsessed with my sex life and that's all he wanted to talk to me about . . . . I raised my voice at him and said, 'Just don't talk to me again.' "

1. Oh, so he's got a lot in common with Clarence Thomas then?
What I don't understand is why NPR held on to this guy for so long.

At least they're not secretly homosexual, like so many conservative white men.

You can add the sarcasm smiley but it is clearly for cover since you are a racist homophobe.

6. Isn't it ironic that the Right Wing powers have jumped to the defense
of a supposed liberal. One would think that they would be ecstatic to get Williams off the air at NPR, just because a "liberal" voice would be off the air.

I think that the NPR tag was invaluable to FOX when it tried to demonstrate how they include everyone. Sad to say that the only liberal on FOX is Michael Kinsley, who really has a hard time overcoming Hannity's bully boy approach.

Just gleefully pointing out the intolerance of the left.

12. Kinsley doesn't try. I've seen him challenge Hannity only once.
But to be fair, this might have occurred more often. I get 100% of my Faux programming second hand from sources like DU and Media Matters. Except for a little while one day Democrats won in 2006 and again in 2008. Watching their heads explode was sheer joy.

I can`t take life that isn`t filtered to be what I want to believe.

13. Maybe Juan should have kept a lower profile after he got dumped.
Now all his dirty laundry is fair game.

Take that you uppity black man...you left the plantation and now will get your stripes.

How does it feel to get the Linda Tripp,Clarence Thomas,Robert Bork treatment Juan?

Horseshit. I've been surfing and commenting on various political boards for ten years and I've yet to see a serious proposal to silence a liberal media voice. That's the wet dream of your ilk, to be able to censor the opposition.

Here we go! Let the horse crap fly.
The left love to deface anyone that stands against them. They have no facts to stand on, so they use the Saul Alinsky tactics.

Saul Alinsky was my bitch.

Hell, I've forgotten more about marginalizing and invalidating people than the primitives ever f*cking learned.

Bring it, you bitches, and your suffering will be legendary - even in hell.  :bird:

OMG! a total smear, 19 years ago? BTW times were different then, it wasn't politically correct like it is today, those were the days where men wolf whistled when a woman walked down the street, all you had to do was ignore it.

We also went to the defense of Bill Maher's right to free speech no matter how reprehensible his comments were, whereas you guys abandoned him.

I'm calling bullsh*t on this one.

Besides the fact it came from RawStory of all places...after the Chamber of Commerce thing what little credibility these idiots might have had flew right out the window.

I agree. I've seen too many women in the last two days comment on what an incredibly nice guy Juan Williams is. If he was the type the article states, these women would not be standing up for him. The women on Fox are all college grads, many with master's or law school degrees...they aren't the type to take up for a sleazy letch.

FIFY

Megyn has a JD and some other female commentator or two on Fox has a  JD.

:rotf: F&F is basically saying that now NPR is scrambling to figure out what they're going to do to fix this. If I were National Public Radio, I'd be second guessing taking the $1.8 million right about now. Then again, oodles of moolah does strange things to some...

I'm ecstatic that he is off of NPR and now works for an agency that will show the man some respect even though he is a *gasp* liberal.

Going back 20 years for some retrospective justification?  Bit of a reach, isn't it?
