::) And no, I am not pregnant.
I want some fried wontons.
You ever crave food you don't usually like?

1. So...you're sure of that?
2. I love good fried won tons.
3. Sometimes I really have a killer craving for a raw carrot, as in "must have carrot, must have carrot!" I don't actually dislike raw carrot, but I don't often want to eat it. That's the only food I can think of that I even get inexplicable cravings for, as if you're body is telling you you need something.

Ohhhhhh...a fellow worker says he has a recipe for home made sweet and sour sauce...........Tempura shrimp anyone?

1. PRetty sure. If I were, I'd be puking my guts up instead of craving some crazy food. ;)
2. Me too! About to go get some right now! My husband and I are going for some Chinese!
3. I love raw carrots. Yummy!

Not necessarily! I fainted all the time with the first one....never was sick. Second one....I was sick, and never fainted.
Pregnancy was the only time I craved foods I didn't particularly like.....pancakes come immediately to mind. :-)

I hope my second time around isn't like the first 20 weeks of my first pregnancy. It was all wonderful after the first 20 weeks, but those first 4-5 months were torture. It was like having a 4 month stomach bug.

Got my craving satisfied!! The wontons were yummy! The rest was blah, but that is how I usually feel when I eat Chinese. I have definitely gotten my calories for the day. And for tomorrow. Well, the whole damned week. It was a buffet. Funny how even though I don't really care for it, I still pig out.
-
Glad you enjoyed it.
I love Chinese food! So good, yet so bad for you. :evillaugh:

Okay, but only if you let me use the hot mustard or the Sriracha hot sauce.
Most embarassing overseas moment--the first time I went to a Vietnamese restaurant, and I was by myself (Guam).
Ordered mint beef. I get a plate of marinated beef, some broth, and some mint leaves. They also set this thing in front of me which I had no idea what it was.
So I start chowing down. Before I know it, the entire family which runs the place is standing around me, staring at me, asking me if I'm enjoying my food, which I was.
Only later did I learn that thing I didn't know what it was in fact was a HOT PLATE and that I should have been COOKING my mint beef on it. Yeah, kids--Sparky ate about a pound of RAW MEAT. What a lovely day that was.
-
Aside from that, how was it?
The last fondue restaurant I went to made me a little nervous. I think I'm going to try the Korean BBQ place down the street. I want to try their kimchee.

Great now I am craving some egg rolls and fried rice :banghead:

Had a lobster omelet last Sunday at a brunch....the egg part was really thin - almost crepe-like, filled with chunks of lobster, heirloom tomatoes, and buffalo mozzarella....accompanied with a hollandaise with Sriracha hot sauce in it. OMG...it was divine!!!! Would never have thought of adding Sriracha to hollandaise, but it was really really good.

Hahahaha!! Well, at least it wasn't mad cow beef!

Ok, I am certainly no food connoisseur, but are those the same as cream cheese and crab fried wontons?

Precisely.
Then again, I'm looking for some salt and pepper calamari...seafood in Iowa? Stick your head in the Cedar River and see if you can suck out a bass.

Try the catfish....should be good there... :-). Tomorrow's Friday....find out which hole in the wall bar the locals hang out, they probably serve fried catfish, french fries and cole slaw on Friday nights...cheap.

Mmm! I had 3 of those today. I could've eaten a million, but they aren't the healthiest things to be eating a million of! Oh my they were good!
The only good seafood we around these parts is shrimp!! Maybe some other fish, but Gulf shrimp is the bomb. I still eat it even after the oil spill. We also have some kick ass catfish, but that is no calamari. Not a fan of the rubbery squid. Or whatever it is. Ick. I've tried it, and I can't get past the rubbery texture.

You **DO** realize I'm working nights, yes?

The last time I made calamari from scratch, it was fresh-frozen and came in a box. Thawed, tossed in spices and fried. It came out nice and tender, but for some reason the sushi place at the other end of the street can't make decent squid to save their lives. I'm through paying them for flavored leather. I heard soaking it in milk is an option, but I never tried it.
I really need to start catching my own catfish. Five bucks a pound is too much.
-

Yeah, but what time do night shifts start? Late, like 11?
...go for lunch...it's still Friday...there will be catfish on the menu.

$5 a pound? Is that what it goes for these days? We rarely buy it because I don't eat much fish at all. My husband gets his kicks at our many many restaurants that serve fried catfish. MS is known for catfish. Belzoni = Catfish capitol of the world (capitol with the "o"). Why? I don't know. And it is pronounced Belzona. Delta Pride catfish is all he will buy when we do buy it.

Catfish out of the Mississippi are ones I wouldn't touch. I think that Walleye is the preferred fish, at least in Northern Iowa & Minnesota.
-
That's what I paid the last time I bought it at the supermarket. Too bad, because it was delicious. I would eat it every day, fried in cornmeal, if I could. I think I paid a dollar more for shrimp at the same time.

These aren't out of the river. These are farm raised. I wouldn't touch the ones out of the river either.

6 PM to 6 AM, with an hour for turnover. And no, I'm not going for lunch. I get back to the hotel around 8, and I have to be up by 5.
