For those who don't remember it, this used to be an absolute gem of a forum. There's a little twist this time around:

The Ask The Administrators forum is back. (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x9308862)
We just opened the new Ask The Administrators forum. You can find it listed along with all of our other forums -- look right below The DU Lounge. Here's how it works...
The Ask the Administrators forum works like most other forums here on DU, but with some important differences.
Anyone can ask a question in this forum. To do so, just click the "Post" icon at the top of the forum. Fill out the form just as you would elsewhere on DU and click the "Submit" button to post.
Your question will not appear immediately. A placeholder for your thread will appear in the ATA forum, to show that your question has been successfully submitted. But the text of your question will not be publicly available until it is reviewed and answered by a DU administrator. Neither you nor anyone else will be able to post replies in your thread until an administrator has posted a response.
Eventually a DU administrator will review your question and post a response. At that point, the text of your question and the text of the administrator's response will both be made public.
The only people who may post replies in a thread are the author of the original question, the DU administrators, and the DU moderators. All other individuals are automatically blocked from posting by our software. If you are the author of the question that started the thread, you can post a response in the thread after an administrator has responded. When you post a reply, it will appear in the thread immediately.
We wish that it were not necessary to institute these restrictions on this forum. But in the past we learned that some people have a tendency to post in the Ask the Administrators forum when they are very angry, and as a result do not always choose their words carefully. The DU Administrators are not online all the time, and we believe it is better if particularly unfair or hurtful accusations posted in this forum are not permitted to fester out in the open without a response.
I look forward to answering all of your questions.
David Allen
DU Administrator

Angry people at DU? I'm shocked at this news.

awww. it's a shell of it's former self. it's not really an "ask the administrators" forum, it's more of a "you may beg the administrators to pay attention to you, and perhaps they will put down their bong long enough to read your question . . . but don't get your hopes up . . . and you can kiss our a$$es if you don't like it" forum.

Exactly, I loved the no-holds barred questions back in the old days, Wretch.
Look at how the Ask the Admins forum looks:

OK, for those of us who didn't go to DU in those days, what made the Ask the Administrator forum so great?

It actually printed the questions! A mere shadow of it's former self!

everything turned into a blow-your-stack-wet-your-pampers-go-insane-remove-my-account-sex-with-your-mother-kiss-my-a$$ explosion of profanity, typically followed by accusations of various sex related felonies. every new policy, every locked or deleted thread, every move the admins made set off a conflagration in ATA. it was always the same script. the whole board would instantly break into three armed and roughly equal camps; First, the ass kissers that supported whatever the admins just did (usually the same suspects), no matter how egregious it was. next, the people that objected to everything the admins ever did, no matter how innocent it was (I remember the policy of giving stars to donors set off an explosion in ATA). and the third group was always composed of people that were pissed off over something that happened last week, and were now convulsing with rage because some mother-word just changed the subject in ATA from their cherished grievance to someone else's insignificant quibble . . . and dammit, they weren't done yet!! (they never are, by the way. those threads literally went on for weeks and months. I remember one thread only ended because the dude died).
unbridled hilarity broke out when an ATA thread itself got locked or deleted, especially when it was started about another thread that got locked or deleted in the first place. heads exploded. friendships ended. at least one marriage shattered. God, it was blissful.
ultimately, the admins obviously just said "fork this snit. closing the damn forum can't be worse than what we are dealing with now".
they aren't fooling me. these are three of the laziest individuals I have ever heard of. the only reason they are opening this new "censored" version of ATA is because they are sick of their PM inboxes filling up. now they just queue up harmlessly in this forum, making them infinitely easier to just ignore.

That is the perfect explanation, Wretch.
I wish we still had the old archives of CU. We had some of the best ATA catfights ever saved for posterity.

Well, as usual, my fellow alum Skins is ignoring the Law of Unintended Consequences.
The problem with Skins, and Democrats, liberals, and primitives in general, is that when deciding upon a course of action, they think they've got all bases covered; that the only consequences that will happen are intended consequences.
I have no idea what's going to happen, but given past "experiments" on Skins's island, I suspect the Law of Unintended Consequences is going to rear its head.

Wow- Skinner is such a wannabe authoritarian. I'd tell him to shove his "I don't appreciate" garbage right up his ass.
The thread in question is the one where they don't want to reference the Chilean mine rescue as a miracle. Seriously- how insane does one have to be to fight over that?

Why are posts allowed in GD
which are stared for the sole purpose of bashing Christians - all Christians? I know there are forums designed specifically for that purpose, but GD is used on a regular basis. I have never seen a thread begun by DU Christians for the pupose of bashing atheists in ANY forum, and I'm quite sure that it would be locked or moved idf there was one.
The thread below is the most recent example.

1. We do not permit posts in GD that are started for the sole purpose of bashing Christians. Updated at 12:48 PM
For future reference, I do not appreciate when people ask questions that start with "Why do you..." and then end with some sort of accusation of bad faith. The accusation of bias in favor of atheists, and against Christians, is also not appreciated. Please read the section entitled "Helpful Hints" in this pinned thread:

My hunch--it's only a hunch, though--is that something's going to happen to muck this all up, and my fellow alum's going to shut down the forum.
I have no idea what's going to happen, but something is going to happen.

Of course.
Wretched Excess is not only a pro at writing, but a pro at explaining things.
Many of us here try to emulate him, but come up somewhat short.
It's great writing.
