Want to know what local companies have sent jobs overseas?
Posted by Curmudgeoness on Mon Oct-11-10 07:23 PM

The AFL-CIO has created a website to track companies who have outsourced jobs. They also list companies with violations to labor and worker safety laws. Just enter your zip code, and a list of all companies in your area will be generated.

The site is called Job Tracker and can be accessed at the following link. Go here to find out whether companies near you are shipping jobs overseas, laying off workers, risking the safety and health of workers or charged with violations of workers' rights laws.

The site is worthless & so out of date.  I looked up my hometown, and here are some of the results:

Quote
30 companies have filed WARN notices which indicates an anticipated plant closing or mass layoff of workers. Click on the company name for details.

Number of employees laid off:    1
Layoff Date:    11/27/2006

Number of employees laid off:    1
Layoff Date:    11/15/2005

Number of employees laid off:    0
Layoff Date:    3/31/2009

Layoff Date:    10/02/2006

Most of the places listed with "massive layoffs" didn't even lay off anyone. :mental:

Some of the companies listed for my area have been out of business for several years.

I looked up my area.  Within a 50 mile radius of me, there are 401 "companies" that have been cited by OSHA for health and safety violations, INCLUDING 2 for a neighboring town, 3 for my town, 4 for adjoining county's school systems, and one at the local community college.

All total, there were 2 fatalities, one at a nearby truckstop because some DUmbass was smoking while fueling his car, resulting in an explosion and fire, and one at a nearby lumberyard.

About 10% of the companies listed have either changed hands/names or out of business.

 :hammer:

Of the 12 companies listed that have "moved jobs out of the area" (not overseas), 3 have been out of business more than 5 years, 2 have been out more than 10 years, 2 are still in business (haven't moved), and I can think of 3 more that closed within the last 5 years that are not even on the list.

Does this mean they're boycotting Toyotas built in America or is jingoism good as long as it's union based?

My company outsourced it's internal help desk to Mexico this year.  And they are better than what we had before.   ::)

OK I took the bait.  The list of companies that came up, indeed shitcanned everyone and moved the hell out.  It was in all the papers, don't need a Union website telling me all about it.  They were very honest.  "It's too cost-prohibitive to do business in this area.  Taxes, labor costs, energy, and regulations make us not competitive.  We're looking at better offers.  Goodbye."

This website, does it want you to then go to this business carrying angry signs or something?  Boycott something?  How do boycott Schueller Technical Papers?  We don't all have laboratories.  Picket next to a chain link fence with a big lock on it all by yourself?  Stupid.

Hey, they've been very helpful in getting them moved.

The only jobs lost around here in the last 30 years have all been due to Eco terrorists, or gubmint paid lackeys, wantin' to save a bug, an owl, or a damned fish! 90% are lumber industry jobs!

We used to have a booming economy due to our managed forests! Now they're stinkin' fire hazards! ****in' green weenies!

In other words, the unions didn't get their already shortened pensions and ridiculous pay increases in that state.
