HOUSTON — State-owned Chinese energy giant CNOOC is buying a multibillion-dollar stake in 600,000 acres of South Texas oil and gas fields, potentially testing the political waters for further expansion into U.S. energy reserves.
With the announcement Monday that it would pay up to $2.2 billion for a one-third stake in Chesapeake Energy assets, CNOOC lays claim to a share of properties that eventually could produce up to half a million barrels a day of oil equivalent.

It also might pick up some American know-how about tapping the hard-to-get deposits trapped in dense shale rock formations, analysts said.

As part of the deal, the largest purchase of an interest in U.S. energy assets by a Chinese company, CNOOC has agreed to pay about $1.1 billion for a chunk of Chesapeake’s assets in the Eagle Ford, a broad oil and gas formation that runs largely from southwest of San Antonio to the Mexican border.

CNOOC also will provide up to $1.1 billion more to cover drilling costs.

The deal represents China’s second try at making a big move into the U.S. oil and gas market, following a failed bid five years ago to buy California-based Unocal Corp.

Intense political opposition over energy security concerns derailed that $18.4 billion deal. But analysts expect few political or regulatory hurdles to the CNOOC-Chesapeake deal.

Loosening the embargo on the CHinese military purchasing C-130's...letting them buy drilling rights to oil leases our own Goverhment won't let American companies drill on.

I think we're beginning to see exactly what the specifics are of the deal this administration struck with the ChiComs to take on so much of our debt to fund Obama's utopian dream.

I look at it this way. China is just reinvesting some of the money that was paid to them from the stimulus for wind mill equipment.

... because that would be in America's favor .... the idea is to give everything away and help destroy America because we deserve our comeuppance

That's just it. Look at the Gulf fiasco. The imposter puts the moratorium on the American drilling companies while foreign nations continue to drill? :banghead: :mental:
And the imposter gives 2 billion dollars each to Mexico and Brazil so they can start their own deep water exploration? :hammer:

This should be election issue now and till he is out in 2013 along with selling C-130's to them

Since it likely could have an impact on the economy, especially oil drilling, it would certainly be the case.

That was 5 years ago. We didn't have an anti-American, incompetent fool running the Country like we do now. :censored:

Wouldn't surprise me. I hate that I've got no other choice for Governor in a couple weeks.

:werd:  As soon as I saw this article posted here, I did a little research on Perry's trip to China, the one back in June.  Man o Man.  It troubles me greatly.  And yes, I know I chided you when you voted for KBH in the primary.  I don't think she would be any better.  This so sucks.
