Republicans Out of Step: New Survey Finds Two-Thirds Say Raise the Minimum Wage
http://blog.aflcio.org/2010/10/07/republicans-out-of-st... /
by Mike Hall, Oct 7, 2010
Recently, a host of major Republican candidates have attacked the federal minimum wage while GOP party leaders have been silent about the assault. From Alaska to Connecticut and in congressional races in between, Republican Senate candidates have called the minimum wage unconstitutional, too much, or just plain unneeded.
Maybe that’s the mainstream view on their native planets, but down here in the good old USA it is far out of step. A new poll from the Public Religion Research Institute finds two-thirds of us say that $7.25 an hour minimum wage should not be abolished but should be raised to $10 an hour with automatic cost of living increases. Are you listening Joe Miller, John Raese and cronies?
Christine Owens, executive director of the National Employment Law Project (NELP), says the poll is
yet another affirmation that maintaining a strong minimum wage is a core American value. Americans overwhelmingly support a minimum wage rate that will help working families make ends meet and provide the boost the economy needs for full recovery.
Even a majority of Republicans—51 percent—support raising minimum wage. Also, 47 percent of the responders who identified themselves as Tea Party members favor the higher minimum wage while 50 percent oppose raising the wage.

Hey great idea. meanwhile lets raise taxes on them and make them pay even more for health insurance. Businesses won't miss any of that money anyway since they won't exist anymore.
:banghead:
If you goons and Barry would just butt out and let those evil corporations make profits wages will go up naturally because instead of having a job shortage we could have a job surplus.

AFL-CIO pushing for higher wages. And they wonder why more and more people are being priced out of the job market.
Nice goin, asshats. You do realize that min wage laws push unemployment UP, right?

That's what they want though. Why do think Pelosi is saying that unemployment insurance and foodstamps are so wonderful? They want as many people dependent on Govt as they can possibly get. That way they get to stay in power because those evil conservatives just wanna take entitlements away. If they get enough people on the dole it's over, there will be no way to stop any of this. If we win it is up to us to remind the people we hired to represent us, to do what we sent them to do. If the tea part candidates fail us we are doomed.

Any poll or survey espousing liberal positions without details of how it is implemented or paid for will always enjoy great popularity.
Should the minimum wage be increased?...."Sure"
Should the minimum wage be increased even though it may lead to higher unemployment?..."Well,maybe"
Should the minimum wage be increased even though it will lead to higher costs of goods and services to all..."Probably not a good idea without some examination of the consequences and over all impact/benefit"

When you put emotion over logic yeah a high min wage feels nice it's just when put into practice it defeats the whole purpose. Sure everyone has more money but, the cost of living increased enough to negate any benefits from paying 16 year olds $20 an hour to flip burgers and mop floors. Like I said before the real answer to higher wages is a strong economy with the Govt worrying about it's Constitutional duties and nothing else.

This has got to be a real bullshit poll! The only people I know, Dem or Rep, who want to raise the minimum wage, are those on minimum wage!
There's not a snowball chance in hell that's 2/3's of the country!
