AUSTIN, Texas - Gunshots have been fired on the University of Texas campus in Austin after an initial report of someone bringing a gun to one of the libraries. The man who brought the gun has apparently killed himself.

A spokeswoman for UT police said there were reports of someone bringing a gun to the Perry-Castañeda Library, which is the main library in the intersection of East 21st Street and Speedway.

KTBC reporter Jenni Lee said Tuesday morning that the man with the gun shot himself to death and the Red McCombs School of Business was placed on lock down.

Possibly a second shooter, armed with an "AK-47". My sister works for the Block (apartments near/on the campus) and the entire building is on lock-down. She just called thankfully, so we're not freaking out.

Yup, except the perp back in the Sixties was shot and killed by LEO after they managed to break down the door to the campus Tower's "roof" (campus tower depicted in the pic). He'd barricaded himself up there and managed to kill and wound a boatload of people before they finally killed him.

Great...suicide before lunch.... :whatever:

How many more bad things can happen in this day and age? This is depressing and sad as hell.

If I remember correctly, there were a boatload of civilian Texans that gathered there shooting back at him.

Didn't Kurt Russell play the shooter in a movie?

News 8 Austin had that info an hour ago. Surprised it took that long for the other media to catch on.  :banghead:

So have we any more info on whether the shooters are/were Islamofascists, "reconquista-ists", or just another pair of Austin moonbats who are impatient for their Skittle-shitting unicorns?

You know that as it stands right now....they are TEA Partiers.

If they are any of the afore mentioned personalities, it'll be a few days and several news sources before we find out.

Ten bucks says they will still be TEA Partiers, even after we know different.  Just like the IRS hater.

Charles Whitman. He killed 16 on August 1, 1966. The worst mass shooter prior to James Huberty, George Hennard, and Seung-Hui Cho.

University of Texas gunman described as 'brilliant,' 'respectful'

The ski-masked student armed with an AK-47 who spread terror at the University of Texas at Austin on Tuesday has been identified as a sophomore mathematics major from Austin.

Colton Tooley, 19, was described by his high school teachers as "brilliant,' 'meticulous" and "respectful."

Investigators said Tooley fired randomly into the air before running into the main library on campus, where he killed himself. Late Tuesday, authorities still had not determined a motive.

Tooley lived with his parents in a tranquil middle-class neighborhood in Austin and was described by neighbors and former teachers as an amicable teenager with a standout scholastic record in high school.
