Segway company owner dies riding two-wheeled machine off cliff
Jimi Heselden, the owner of the Segway company, has died after riding one of the two-wheeled machines off a cliff and into a river.
The multi-millionaire businessman, 62, fell into the River Wharfe while inspecting the grounds of his North Yorkshire estate on a rugged country version of the Segway.
A passer-by found Heselden alongside his Segway in the Boston Spa area at about 11.40am on Sunday.

Was he following GPS directions?
-
I diden't know anyone even used those things anymore.

Was he following GPS directions?
That is funny on a couple levels. Twisted but funny.
-
Alcohol involved? Stupidity? Suicide? New Segway idea with parachute?
-
Is there going to be a recall for faulty operators?
OH...OH...I KNOW ....he was testing the new shock absorbers.....they didn't work.
-
All terrain amphibious flying Segway...amphibious and aerial functionalities marginal, need work.
:rotf:

I think those things are stupid anyways. I can see if someone is maybe injured and cannot walk long distances or what not. But seeing everyday people ride those, they look like I_D_I_O_T_S. :-) :cheersmate:

I could see them being useful in big manufacturing plants. The local Firestone plant had bicycles that supervisors would use to get around the plant.

The security at the complex next door to us rides those things around. Same with our mall cops. It's quite hilarious.
At least he doesn't have to pay the death tax.

I think this is sad, from some news reports the owner was riding a protype of a new all terrain Segway, lots of uses for them things.
Military, from what I see these thing are super quiet and can get into places that require silence.
Patrolling UK parks, in the long run cheaper then going on horse back.
In a very large flat Mall these things can out run a thief, get to a medical emergency and find lost kids.
The possibility's of uses for the Segway are unlimited and the poor fellow that bought the company to die because of his dream and imagination is to me to be questioned.

Segway's cannot out run a thief. If someone was chasing me on a Segway, I'd make sure they were taking a spill.
You can hear electric motors coming. I can hear a Prius coming when it's traveling 10mph in our parking lot. It sounds like "hum" type of noise. I don't know why our military would use a Segway to sneak up on people. I'm sure we have better technology for being sneaky.
I wasn't laughing because he died. That's sad. I'm just laughing at the people who use them for security purposes.

Whenever someone mentions a Segway, that's the image I get in my head.
