Chile: 17 Year Old Girl Protesting Animal Cruelty At Rodeo Is Roped, Dragged Like Animal

A 17-year-old kid (or "woman", as the press prefers to call it) is lassoed and dragged by a horseman after she and other animal rights activists entered a corral to protest against the rodeo. According to the news article linked here, the Chilean Rodeo Federation's director "regretted what happened, but at the same time justified the attitude of the riders".

The ropers showed great restraint.  She was being "escorted" from the arena until her idjit of a friend grabbed her and they both went down.

The ropers did stop her from messing with their horses and possibly from getting hurt.  She's a tool and her actions failed.

We took the 4 kids to their first Rodeo and all was fine until my 12 year old daughter began to cry during the calf roping.

Mommy stop them, they are hurting the baby cow, Oh,was she ever hysterical so we took the family home.

What can parents do in this case.?

Two others, previously reported missing, were discovered by fast food workers “duct taped inside several fast food restaurant dumpsters,” according to police officials.

“Something just went wrong,” said a still visibly shaken organizer of the protest. “Something just went horribly, horribly, wrong.”

The organizer said a group of concerned animal rights activist groups, “growing tired of throwing fake blood and shouting profanities at older women wearing leather or fur coats,” decided to protest the annual motorcycle club event “in a hope to show them our outrage at their wanton use of leather in their clothing and motor bike seats.” “In fact,” said the organizer, “motorcycle gangs are one of the biggest abusers of wearing leather, and we decided it was high time that we let them know that we disagree with them using it…ergo, they should stop.”

According to witnesses, protesters arrived at the event in a vintage 1960′s era Volkswagen van and began to pelt the gang members with balloons filled with red colored water, simulating blood, and shouting “you’re murderers” to passers by. This, evidently, is when the brouhaha began.

“They peed on me!!!” charged one activist. “They grabbed me, said I looked like I was French, started calling me ‘La Trene’, and duct taped me to a tree so they could pee on me all day!”

“I…I was trying to show my outrage at a man with a heavy leather jacket, and he…he didn’t even care. I called him a murderer, and all he said was, ‘You can’t prove that.’ Next thing I know he forced me to ride on the back of his motorcycle all day, and would not let me off, because his girl friend was out of town and I was almost a woman.”

Say Sparky, she was a 12 year old little girl not a 19 year old.

Times were different then, kids were kids and not into drugs at 8 years old.  She had never lived on a farm or seen the reality of life yet.

We were Military dependents you know and the kids at most had dogs and cats for pets.

We as adults had been to Cock Fights, seen our share of bar fights and all kind of mayham, a 12 year old at that time would have freaked at a Bull Fight especially a girl.

It was our fault that we took her, a sensitive child to the Rodeo, had we taken her years before she would perhaps have enjoyed it as much as her two brothers.

Today it takes no time to sensitize children to violence, TV and video games cause no problems, back then, someone kicking a cat on the sidewalk would send the kids into a panic.

And yes Sparky they were hurting a baby cow, you take off running as fast as you can and have some dude on horse back lasso your chest and pull you to the ground knocking out your breath as they tie your legs up

This is called innocence Sparky, 12 year olds girls did not wear thongs, drink, have sex, or wear clothing that showed off their body for the boys..

The only reason a girl of that age knew about boy parts was from male members in the family needing a diaper change.

Unfortunately the innocence did not last long after 12, sad but peer pressure has more to do with guidance of kids today then parents.

Bullshit.  Pure, unadulterated bullshit, vesta.

I lived in Idaho from the age of 7 on and off until I was 14.  Lots of farming, lots of cattle, lots of ranching.  At the age of 8 I saw my first bull being castrated.  I saw cattle branded from the same age.

Had lots of animals.  Went to the Bear Lake Rodeo in Paris (ID) every 4th of July.  Even did the calf riding (yearling calves, about 400-500 lbs) a couple times.  Dad rode bareback and saddle bronc.

By the age of 12, most kids know where babies come from, etc.  And no, none of us did drugs either.  At least not until high school.

I also lived among farmers, hunters and what not on summer vacation and earlier when my grandparents took me so my parents could do their thing in DC.    For a few years I lived in Navy Housing in Groton Conn. but as both parents worked I has happier with my retired grandparents that were home all day.

Be it Maine or New Hampshire I saw in the fall deer hanging off the fenders of cars and trucks, hanging dead in my grandparents back yard and those of the neighbors.  By the time I was 12 most of my friends lived on farms so I had all ready seen farmers training the Cocks to fight, cows giving birth, one horse being gelded, hogs being slaughtered hung and gutted.   

My kids have lived most of their lives as children  in Navy Housing, One seldom lives in government housing and watches a parent tie a chickens legs to the cloths line and cut off their head, or even see a cat or dog give birth. Some rules for living in some government housing is a no Pets clause.

You need to know that at her age we did not have cable so no Wild Kingdom or any blood and guts gore that goes on in the world. 

Then there is the natural instinct of her younger brothers, 8 & 6 years old to watch everything with rapt attention.  Boys, they were learning life and loved the gory stuff.

Things have changed since then, as adult she has now little problem with the same things that bothered her as a child, but she still gets all freaky when she sees worms on the side walk.

Kids today can be as complex as confusing as ever.  My middlest kid loved (still does love) bloody, gory movies and games, and has no problem with getting in fights and seeing (making) other men bleed.   He spent years training to box, and loves it.

However, he got sick when someone hit our cat with a baseball bat and broke his jaw.  And he nearly cried with his son the first time he took him for shots.   :clueless:

Vesta, if you had known you would have explained the anatomy of a calf's neck and spine and explained that it doesn't hurt them like it would seem to hurt if done to a child.  And you would have explained that the skills the ropers had by practicing on the calves really helped all calves and cows when they are sick and needing medicine and catching them quickly is easier on them than chasing them for a long time.  Oh and catching them by the neck is less likely to harm the calf than if they catch a front leg.  Less fragile.

Don't sweat it, though.  A lot of people misunderstand the events at rodeo.  Too many are so far removed from ag life.

Rodeos can be cruel for the animals. I didn't grow up on a farm by any means, but I was around livestock plenty. I've been to several rodeos, but I have to say that I am not a fan. Many of the animals get injured. So do the cowboys/cowgirls. But by their own choice. They know the risks. I am just not a fan.

I personally think many injuries go unreported. That is just my take. I know there are some positives with the rodeo. I enjoy when I do go, but I am still not a fan.

Oddly enough, I'm not a fan either.  Unless an activity is tied to a functional goal or skill, I don't get enthused.
