Ok my fellow sociopaths, here we go...
As we all know, the fifth season kicks off tonight, and at the risk of coming off like some egocentric douchebag, I thought it might be neato to have a new thread dedicated to talking about this season's storyline. There's been a considerable amount of chatter on various blogs recently about whether or not this will be the show's final season, based in large part on the ad campaign Showtime launched a short while ago. Understandably, the "Guilt Can Be A Killer" tagline and the season preview trailer seem to hint that because Dexter is blaming himself for Rita's murder at the hands of Trinity, he may perhaps be subconsciously setting himself up to be either caught or killed, especially since he appears to be getting further and further away from the "Code of Harry."
Now, I'm kind of between a rock and a loaded pistol here. Yes, it's been exceedingly frustrating having to leave my friends in the dark about Dexter, and as the show has grown in popularity, this frustration has sometimes bordered on madness. Fortunately however, everyone (including you wonderful maniacs here at the Cave) have been terrific in understanding that if ANYONE associated with a television series - from the lead actor to the lowest gofer - ever leaked so much as a minor plot point, said offender would find themselves on unemployment, in perpetuity, within milliseconds.
But, I would love the opportunity to chat about the show as this season unfolds, and as long as we don't piss off the people who buy the food for my dog, I think this could be fun, no?
So, the old lady and I are obliged to attend a premier viewing party tonight at work, although we'd much rather stay home, pan fry a couple of steaks, cut open a few blood oranges and reminisce about our old friends down by the waterfront. Those of you who watch the show will no doubt get the reference. :-)
PS - About that "season preview" trailer...keep in mind that the show is told from two perspectives (plenty of really smart people sometimes forget that): Dexter's and the Miami PD's, and that while we all know that Trinity has gone on to bigger and better things (namely, having his ass used as Satan's umbrella stand), the cops still think he's out there.
Ok. Time for me to shut up now. :censored:

Watch my AT&T Uverse crap out on me tonight. :censored:

You're going to make me order Showtime, aren't you?

Could I just say that I want to see Dexter have to fight a serial killer who only kills serial killers who kill other serial killers, but then the two of them are forced to team up against a serial killer who only kills serial killers who kill other serial killers who kill other serial killers.*
*Who club baby seals.

Looking forward to the premier tonight, probably can't watch it live since my g/f isn't a big fan of anything too violent, but I vow to watch it before bedtime.

Who the **** is Dexter? Is he Mr. Ed's boy toy????
j/k. I won't be watching the show, because I don't do prime time/drama/whatever-the-hell-category-this-is-TV. But I wish you good luck nonetheless, H-wood.

You don't know what you are missing then. It is one of the best shows I have ever watched and I watch A LOT of T.V.!
OK I am only up to last week's episode. I love the insert of Santa Muerte! I find weird stuff like that fascinating! I really like Quinn, but he is only going to end up breaking my heart.
I am sick of Angel whining. Holy crap will you please write in a scene where he takes some freaking midol and STFU!?!?! Musuka could have his own show. He is such a great character!
Will there be another season? I have heard rumors that this is the last. :bawl:

If he told you, you'd have to supply dog food for his dog. He said so up thread.

I think he alluded to .... if he told he would BECOME dog food. I could've misread that though.

Well, Manny Coto, one of the show's Executive Producers, wrote the majority of last night's episode, as well as the entire Jordan Chase story arc. However, we had nine writers working on the show this season (it''s already been written and filmed, of course), so I'd be hard-pressed to name exactly who it was who conceived of Jordan's "trophy" (although I suspect it may have been Manny - he always thought the Angelina Jolie/Billy Bob Thornton weirdness was totally cool).
You'll notice during the opening credits that we seldom credit the same writer/writers twice - that's primarily because while one or two people may actually deliver the shooting script (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooting_script), most of the writing staff contribute little nuances and pieces of business throughout the process.
Here's a video of all of us chatting about this season. I'm the guy sitting on Chip's left who doesn't say a damn thing. :-)

I'll have to look at the video when I get home -- thanks! When I saw the preview, I was thinking JLM was throwing a subtle 'dig' at his ex-wife (even though the blood thing was with Billy Bob, not him). :-)

I can see where you'd think that. I get the feeling JLM didn't have to act all that much in "Trainspotting," ya know? :lmao:

Heh, probably not! Great movie, although the bar men's room scene and the description of what heroin does to your digestive system can be a bit difficult to watch. :puke: :-)

Dearest Dexter Writer,
I know you don't film the show. I know you probably don't have a lot of imput on how they film things there either. Could you please explain to the director that when Dexter is giving an anatomy lesson while punching a guy in his organs that he should probably punch him where the organ is actually located. While punching the guy in the liver Dexter was nowhere near the liver. He punched him in the spleen/pancreas area. The liver is mostly on the other side.
Hugs and Kisses, Melinda
P.S. When Dexter investigates why and how fans get obsessed about stupid details please let me know.
