From CNN Congressional Producer Ted Barrett

Washington (CNN) - Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Tuesday he will add the DREAM Act, a controversial immigration measure, to a defense policy bill the Senate will take up next week.

The decision means the defense bill, which often passes with bipartisan support, will be home to two major, thorny political issues – the other being the repeal of the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

Reid called the DREAM Act "really important" and said it should be passed because it provides a path to citizenship for young illegal immigrants who go to college or serve in the military. DREAM is an acronym for Development, Relief and Education of Alien Minors Act.

"I know we can't do comprehensive immigration reform," Reid said at a news conference. "But those Republicans we had in the last Congress have left us."

=================================================

Nope--no pandering here, kids!

And he wonders why the American electorate is so pissed off.  WTF does the DREAM (a BS acronym if ever there was one) have to do with defense spending?

There's also a repeal of DADT in this from what I've heard. Dirty Harry's last stand, he's trying to pander to get every "hispanic" vote he can. He knows it's over, I think, he's got a good lobbyist job lined up for next year.

Angle ought to make the public aware of this ASAP.

Angle works quickly.  I bet she will have at least a radio ad by the end of this week about this DREAM act being slipped into the defense bill.

Reid makes me sick.  We (husband & I) are fortunate enough to live in Nevada during this election.  I hope our votes throw Reid out and send his ass back to Searchlight.

Unfortunately, Pyro, as the current Senate Majority Leader, he IS relevant, even if his ideas aren't realistic.

Once again...those of us in uniform get used as pawns so the Dems can get two of their little pet projects shoved through that they KNOW wouldn't stand on their own.

I remember during the election they gave Romney grief for being Mormon, do you all know Reid is Mormon? Just sayin'  :innocent: I am also beginning to think he just may lose.  :evillaugh:

That may be why he is doing this.  It's his best chance to portray the GOP in a bad light if they hold up a defense spending bill right before the elections.

Of course that is why he did it that way. But these days it is starting to look like he may not get away with it?!!.. wishful thinking I know.

It will be a great day when Pisslosi has to give up the gavel to the new majority leader, and she loses her plane perk. We will watch how trashy she and Reid act when they lose.

Gotta do what they can to secure the illegal alien vote come november.  There are some key races that are so tight that could make the difference.

Good ole "Dirty Harry Reid", he never misses a trick.  What an ass... .

And of course all of us waiting to get promoted get put into limbo as well if the defense spending gets kicked back because of this stuff.

The leftist meme will be,"The Republicans are against the military because they won't fund the war."

More and more I think that removing 20% of the 'problem' will be the only true solution.

Either way it's a win for the Dems.  Granted it's the most pathetic way known to man to get a W...but right now it's all Dingy Harry has.

The Republicans vote against it...they can spend the next 45 days thrashing them for not supporting the military and call them hypocrites.

They vote for the whole package and Conservative voters spend the next 45 days thrashing the Republicans for voting for the bill and calling them hypocrites.

:thatsright:

you are correct there. Let's hope the people of Nevada make him irrelevant in November.

This is Sharron Angle's newest ad.  This one does not mention the DREAM act.  This ad was just released today.  It's still a good ad though.

Well, I've just read that two previous yes votes among Republicans--Hatch and Bennett of Utah--are now nays on this. I must say we should give Bennett some credit; he might have acted spitefully after being challenged--and beaten--by Bridgwater/Lee, with Lee finally getting the nomination. But he didn't.

I think Reid is going to need every Dem in the end for this; and I don't agree that Republicans lose if they stand against this. This is SUCH an obvious poison pill; it's practically as bad as Obamacare being attached to the budget. No, I think most people are going to hold this against the Dems--and Reid has, as already discussed here, handed Angle some heavy ammo.

Defense bills should be 100% about defense. Politican need to stop using them for pork and other unrelated topics. If DREAM is strong enough to stand on it's own, submit it by itself.

Somehow that makes no sense!

The American people are dead set against this kind of pandering to illegals! If this asshat wins in Nov, we cetainly need to investigate the voter rolls in Nevada for fraud!

I don't know if illegals can join, but haven't some immigrants been grant citizenship after serving in the military?  I have no problem with legal immigrants joining the military to gain citizenship.

To my knowledge you have to be here legally to serve. Non citizens can serve but, they have to present the old green card before they sign the dotted line.

Correct--and being a non-US citizen severely limits which jobs they can hold.  Nothing with a security clearance, for starters.

And getting Green Card verification is a BITCH.  More than one recruiter tried to bullshit his way through the process, but most of them ended up getting caught.  More than one DEP attrite was due to "citizenship" issues.

No.  But there have been cases where illegals have used fake doccuments to enlist...and then been given citizenship afterwards.  The first time I remember heraing about that was when I was in Iraq in 2003.

Thank goodness the Republicans stood up to this. To me this was a hell of a lot more important to defeat than Don't Ask Don't Tell. Now Angle and anyone else combatting the lies the libs/Dems are going to tell about this need to get the truth out in tv ads.

When it comes down to a vote, the Dems have pretty much gotten their way. Somewhere along the way, a Repub or RINO-in-training has caved in (Stupak); or Repubs-who-think-they're-Dems like Snow and Collins bend to their socialist and progressive constituents.

Is it me, or has the mood of the country actually galvanized the Republican party to do more but stand there in impotence watching their "colleagues" bow and scrape to Lord Zero? If so, good on us.
