LOS ANGELES (AP) — Herb Peterson, who invented the ubiquitous Egg McMuffin as a way to introduce breakfast to McDonald's restaurants, has died, a Southern California McDonald's official said Wednesday. He was 89.

Peterson died peacefully Tuesday at his Santa Barbara home, said Monte Fraker, vice president of operations for McDonald's restaurants in that city.

He began his career with McDonald's Corp. as vice president of the company's advertising firm, D'Arcy Advertising, in Chicago. He wrote McDonald's first national advertising slogan, "Where Quality Starts Fresh Every Day."

RIP, Herb Peterson.

Peterson was a good egg.  I hear his casket looks like two English muffins.  The lining looks like a slab of Canadian bacon.

RIP dude. Your Egg McMuffins is just what I needed at 2 am while I was knocked up and cranky and nothing in the house will do.

A while back a really good friend of mine had an Uncle named Ron (Short for Ronald) MacDonald die.

My mouth sometimes runs ahead of my brain and when he told me that I imediately asked him if they had buried him in a colorful paper box with a toy.

He burst out laughing and told me that he had been cremated and that he had put an origami dragon in the casket at the viewing and that he was in a cardboard container till they spread the ashes at sea.  So technically he was kind of a happy meal.

Now he can thank the inventor of the McCoffin.  That was so not funny.

*groans*   That WAS bad. :lmao:

RIP, Herb and God Bless.

Now, I'll need to get up extra early tomorrow to get an Egg McMuffin.  That sounds really good right now (since nothing else does at the moment).

A good culinary creation that was perfected by the ouster of the Canadian bacon and the addition of the sausage patty.

We don't have canadian bacon on ours down here.  It's either sausage or ham. :-)
