Big Time Troll Bust At DKos
KY-Sen: Rand Paul staffer caught posing as progressive at Daily Kos
--snip--
Well, it turns out that at least one member of Rand Paul's paid campaign staff has been posing as a progressive member of the Daily Kos community in an effort to dampen enthusiasm for Conway's campaign and moneybomb. The staffer, Thomas Kubica, is a paid intern in Paul's Bowling Green office. Paul campaign's front desk confirmed Kubica's status as a paid intern on Tuesday morning.
Kubica registered at Daily Kos under the pseudonym "Huey Long" and has repeatedly posed as a progressive Democrat who opposes Paul but does not believe Conway is worthy of support.
--snip--
Kubica has also penned diaries criticizing Conway from the left (here and here), each of them transparent attempts to dampen progressive enthusiasm for Conway.

A sample of one of the trolls posts:
Funny
That's one hilarious accusation. I've been accused of being a far-left purist plenty of times, but never a Paultard!
I'm sorry if trying to hold Democrats accountable irritates you.
But I believe someone who claims to represent progressives and comes here to collect our money should at least answer for the anti-progressive stances he has taken.
Believe it or not, I'm not a purist. John Kerry supported the Iraq war, but he later admitted it was a mistake and turned out to be a good choice for progressives. I worked hard on his campaign.
But Jack Conway has taken far too many positions that align him more with Mitch McConnell than any other Democrat. I don't think he offers progressives anything worthwhile besides not being Rand Paul.

--snip--
My comment: Wow! Whoda thunk it!! A Repub troll on an internet message board attacking Dems from the left and trying to dampen enthusiasm!! Genius!! Pure genius!!! Makes one wonder. Or maybe it doesn't.

54. I wonder how many "I'm not voting Dem in Nov" here at DU
posts are trolls.
I simply can't imagine anybody -- no matter how much they now claim to be disappointed with the admin or whatever, I simply can't conceive of any Dem wanting this current batch of wacky teabaggers in charge of the government. I think a lot of them (not all) are fake. I mean there are some posters who, ALL THEY POST is, that they are going to not vote for Dems in Nov! That's bullshit....then get off DU then.

105. So You Deny That This Is Going On? Updated at 10:26 AM
It would be nice if you had any evidence to back up the assertion that these witch hunts actually happen, considering the posts on the greatest page are very often anti-Dem and anti-Obama. How does that work?
Here is concrete evidence that this happens and it's an all too familiar refrain. Or do you deny that?
I defy you to show a single post where anyone says "everyone I disagree with is a Republican spy". Just one.

120. Yes, let's censor - no wait - BAN any opinion that doesn't tow the party line
that's the way to get support for such a "big tent" party as the Dems. I'm sure you must be joking.

157. Sometimes these troll play us against ourselves...
We all know that some of us had different Dems in the race that we supported in 2008 and were hurt when they fell out of that race for presidency.
And a lot of us have been 'nit-picking' at how and what the winner has done so far - good or bad. I'm sure if my chosen one had won, I'd probably have done the same thing too. So those trolls are spinning that game back on us to discourage us.
In other word, I may not be totally happy with some of the things that have transpired in the last twenty months, but I for damn sure am not giving up on something to get nothing (or less) from the party of 'no' just because I'm frustrated.

Edited on Tue Sep-07-10 06:48 PM by NJmaverick
liberal. Easy to redirect anger and dissatisfaction away from the right target (the GOP, tea baggers and right wingnuts) and wrongfully focus it on the Dem. Far more effective to do that sort of thing posing as a liberal rather than a right winger. The GOP and right wingnuts may be evil but they are not stupid.
Ever notice how the internet liberals are less supportive than polls of liberals find?

Rand Paul Campaign: Staffer Accused Of Trolling Daily Kos Impersonated
The whole thing may have been a hoax:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/08/rand-paul-camp...
On Tuesday, the progressive blog Daily Kos alleged that Thomas Kubica, a paid intern working on Kentucky U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul's campaign, had been pretending to be a left-leaning member of the online community for political gain; however, according to the Tea Party-backed hopeful's camp, the accusation lacks merit and is entirely untrue.
"This phony," wrote Paul aide Gary Howard in an e-mail to the Huffington Post on Wednesday morning. "The person is not our intern, someone used our intern's info from his LinkedIn page to pose as him on Kos and post stuff. He even sent us an email through our website email form pretending to get 'caught' working for us."
The email address Kos claimed as proof, didn't originate from where he claimed it did:
According to IP Address information sent to HuffPost, the message sent by "Tom Kubica" came by way of Massachusetts, not Kentucky as had been suggested by the Daily Kos one day earlier:
IP Address Country Region City Latitude/ Longitude ZIP Code Time Zone 38.97.124.170 UNITED STATES MASSACHUSETTS FRAMINGHAM 42.3019 -71.428 01701 -05:00 Net Speed ISP Domain DSL PSINET INC COGENTCO.COM IDD Code Area Code Weather Station 1 508/774/781/978 USMA0147 - FRAMINGHAM
A twisted tale based only on the word of a blogger, and just as happened with Shirley Sherrod, the person accused was not given a chance to respond before he was tried and convicted and all kinds of other speculations spread like wildfire around the internet.
In updates at the link Kos is sticking to his story, but hasn't explained the incorrect source of the email he used as 'proof'.
Tom Kubica, Paul's aide, adamantly denies he ever posted on Daily Kos.
I'd say the ball is in Kos' court. He either needs to provide more than an incorrect email as proof of such serious allegations, or apologize imho.

So let me get this straight, people on the left are showing up at Tea Party rallies with racist and kooky signs to make us look like racists and kooks, and now we have a progressive kook posing as a conservative posing as a progressive to make conservatives look bad, and all this time the progressives are doing what they're accusing conservatives of doing except the conservatives aren't doing anything kooky at all.
