GRAND ISLE, LA (WAFB) - The Coast Guard is responding to another oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico.

According to the Coast Guard, 13 people were onboard.

Everyone is accounted for. Officials are reporting one injury.

The injured worker is being taken to Terrebonne General Medical Center.

The rig is located about 90 miles south of Vermilion Bay.

Rescue choppers from New Orleans and Houston are responding.

Coast Guard officials said they do not yet know if there is any type of leak associated with this explosion.

They said it was not actively producing product, but they will investigate whether there is any type of environmental impact.

The rig is known as "Vermilion 398."

The rig is owned by Mariner Energy, which is based in Houston.

The company has an office in Lafayette.

Especially when you take into consideration the Enviro-terrorist at the Discovery Channel building yesterday. Could it be that someone was inspired by James Jay Lee to do something stupid? I'm not saying this is the case, but judging from recent leftist violence, it is a possibility.

Let's see, Lord Zero used an accident at a drilling platform to place a moratorium on drilling. This is a shut down production platform.  Are we going to hear a cry for all platforms to be shut down until they can be inspected?

Curious Timing (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=129604786&ft=1&f=1001) for this story to break.

It's AP, so here's the headline.

Only 13 people were on the platform that exploded today, pretty hard for them to watch over the whole thing 24/7.

"Not producing" does not equal "Dry well," FWIW.

I heard production only, not drilling.  On the radio earlier.

13 people in the water, 12 life vests. All huddled together, all were rescued in great shape, fire extinguished, oil slick rumor was just that as Coast Guard reported none exists.
No major international incident. Everything contained.

But, doesn't not producing mean they weren't pumping? In my definition no product means just that. Not that they're just not drilling.

Pretty much does mean not pumping, usually.  Oil companies take rigs on and off line for extended periods all the time for various reasons, especially low-producing ones.  Has a lot to do with the commodity price of whatever kind of crude it pumps.
