Congresswoman Violated Nepotism Rules, Funneled Thousands to Family and Friends
August 29, 2010 3:01 A.M.
By Daniel Foster
Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D., Texas), a long-serving congresswoman from Dallas, improperly awarded thousands of dollars in college scholarships from the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, violating nepotism and ethics rules by giving the funds to multiple relatives and the children of top aide Rod Givens.

Johnson also violated a rule that required scholarship winners to live or attend school in the awarding member’s district.

I'm shocked....shocked I tell you.

Well, about as shocked as if I had licked my fingers and grabbed a AAA battery by the + end only.

The shocker to me is that her party affiliation was mentioned so high up in the story.

Well- to be fair, the link goes to NRO.. Now if the link went to WaPo or the Boston Globe, then I would be surprised.

It isn't as if they could avoid it.  Name me a member of the CBC that isn't a raving marxist?

In the context that that word is used these days;  Yes. I admit it proudly.

Just one more example of how the Black members of congress are being persecuted by racist Republicans

college scholarships from the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation,

You know what it bothers me that they can have a congressional black caucus.
If we had a congressional white caucus it would be shut down.
Congress is supposed to represent everyone in their district not just those with the same skin pigmentation.

She's a girl named EDDIE?

That is all I have to add right now.  I just want to verify.

Was hoping for Sheila Jackass Lee-nin, but I'll take it.

She's the rep for the district I grew up in. Needless to say she didn't get any votes from my family.

Wow, she recognised the names of her own family members, that's ... special.  :whatever:

Quote
... Johnson, a Democrat, denied any favoritism when asked about the scholarships last week. Two days later, she acknowledged in a statement released by her office that she had violated the rules but said she had done so "unknowingly" and would work with the foundation to "rectify the financial situation."

Initially, she said, "I recognized the names when I saw them. And I knew that they had a need just like any other kid that would apply for one." ...

It seems like the reasonable thing to do when she recognized the names would have been to excuse herself the selection committee, but I suppose that would have made too much sense  :whatever:

But then those poor ddeserving children may not have got the scholarships, and grandma might have had to subsidise them with her own money rather than the taxpaers'.   :o

Amazing. Equally interesting is the fact that they posted the entire 10 minute interview.

Eddie is a douchenozzle. It's hard for me to believe that the good citizens of Houston actually elected that cretin.

And nothing will be done since it was Congressional Black Caucus money.  They aren't about to prosecute her.

Point of order: EBJ is Dallas. Sheila Jackass Lee is Houston. Doesn't say much for their districts.

Was gonna post the same thing, but I didn't want to claim her either.  KRLD had an exclusive interview with her yesterday morning, I heard snippets of it.  Essentially the DMN reported is being accused of being a right wing racist for stirring up dirt on her.  The very idea that any reporter of the Dallas Morning Snooze being a right wing racist makes me laugh.  HA!
