Title: Cross your fingers for my husband, please!
Post by: Chris_ on August 25, 2010, 10:58:21 PM
My father-in-law is an engineer for a railroad in Illinois.  He saw a job position that my husband would qualify for.  He called up my husband and told him about it.  My FIL wants us closer to family and we wouldn't mind being closer either.  It would really help out.

My husband submitted his resume/application tonight.  Now it's a waiting game and HOPING he gets called in for an interview.  The only thing that sucks is that he would have to pretty much do a last minute flight if he gets a job interview.

It's all worth it though.  We are so lonely and bored out here.  Family only comes here about once a year.

Best of luck to both of you, EC.

Illinois ain't so bad if you can stay away from the upper-right quadrant. Carbondale is actually pretty cool, despite the relatively high level of moonbatism as compared to the surrounding area.

Good luck EC & Family!  Illinois has some shortcomings but at least it's not coastal Californistan or the Boswash Corridor, which are so moonbat-drenched it's amazing any humans can live there at all.

Downstate isn't so bad compared to Crook County and the surrounding area.

We would be moving to Monmouth, IL.  Western part of the state, near Galesburg and the Quad Cities.  It's a town of about 9,000 people.  That would be a big change after living in both Phoenix & Las Vegas, but our stress levels would decrease.  Las Vegas stresses me out most days.  It's no surprise Las Vegas topped the stress list.

That doesn't seem to be too far from Iowa. I drove 100 round trip when I worked. I'm retired now.

Iowa just passed their CCW laws to be shall issue instead of may issue.

I think my husband said Monmouth is about 30 minutes from Iowa.  My husband would be working out of Galesburg which is 15 minutes away.  All of his family lives in Monmouth though.  So it's just easier to live there.  Plus his grandparent's said we could live in their home to save up money even faster for a house.

Galesburg is a nice town! A friend from college grew up there...he went back there after college, don't know if he stayed or not.

Monmouth is a nice little town. I've been there several times. I've lived in Viola, Orion, Geneseo, Moline, East Moline & Rock Island in Illinois for many years. I'm going back for a visit next week but I doubt I would ever move back. I really like Nevada.

The good news is that Allegient is starting to offer non-stop flights from Las Vegas to Moline starting in October.
Fares start at $45 each way, plus fees.

I hope the job works out. Living far from family is hard.

Wow Rob!  I had no idea Allegient was adding Moline as non-stop flight.  I know they fly non-stop to Rockford to Las Vegas.  My parent's fly out from Rockford.  Whenever we fly, Midwest/Frontier is cheaper for fares.  I will have to let my inlaw's know.

My mom has three friends flying in from Moline in Jan. I was about $127 R/T with fees & tax. Before this they had to use Cedar Rapids or Peoria.

I use Allegient to fly to my sister's in Nebraska. Non-stop is awesome!

At one time Air Tran had non-stop to Vegas from Moline, I used it in 2007 and it only cost me $99 each way...I wish they would bring that back.

My inlaw's tend to fly out when Allegient is doing their Buy One, Get one free airfare sales to Las Vegas.  I always tell my parent's about it, but they procrastinate and never purchase... and then bitch & moan when they have to pay $800 to come to Las Vegas.

I hope your parents take advantage of the flights and come visit you. I moved to Nevada to live closer to my mom (March 2008) after my father was killed in an accident. I gave up a lot by moving but have gained so much more back in return.

I'm just about 40 miles outside of Las Vegas in Pahrump.

My mom is a procrastinator and my dad is a truck driver who owns his own business.  My dad loves coming out here when they find time.  My mom will sit around and be like, "well, I don't know if we can afford it", whenever I tell her about the amazing BOGO sales.  And then when it comes to rental cars... oh my gosh!  My husband works for a company contracted through Hertz, so he can get a really good discount.  My mom thinks getting the car the day they get into Las Vegas is "cheaper" then the discount.  She found out the hard way in July 2009 that that definitely wasn't the case.

She (my mom) just doesn't use her whole brain all at once.  She won't even buy a $20 webcam to chat with Carleigh on the weekends because 'she can't afford it', but it's complete bullshit.  She just doesn't want to take the time and effort to get in her car and drive to Walmart to buy one.

Sorry about the rant.  lol

That stinks. Carleigh would love to see Grandma on the computer!

My mom drives me nuts most of the time also.  :evillaugh:

I don't live that far away, if your family ever needs anything just let me know.

You heartless, racist bitch.

Obama's entire economic recovery plan focuses on the government giving away piles of money to people not producing anything in the hopes that their subsequent spending spurs productivity in others.

Your greedy, self-interested quest for employment is undermining the entire premise of these policies and frankly, I can't see any reason for not wanting to sit around on your ass collecting a government check other then the fact you just resent a black man living in the White House.

Your hateful hating disgusts me, you hater!</du>
