Title: L.A. Times ask S.A.G. to deny Ernest Borgnine lifetime award
Post by: Airwolf on August 24, 2010, 07:18:18 PM
For a bunch of assholes that claim to be for tolerance and all that, they sure as HELL don't want to let Mr. Borgnine get his just reward.

Should SAG be honoring Ernest Borgnine?
August 19, 2010 |  3:11 pm
Oscar winner Ernest Borgnine ("Marty") is to receive the lifetime achievement award from the Screen Actors Guild on Jan. 30, six days after he turns 94. In making the announcement, SAG president Ken Howard said, "Whether portraying brutish villains, sympathetic everymen, complex leaders or hapless heroes, Ernest Borgnine has brought a boundless energy which, at 93, is still a hallmark of his remarkably busy life and career. It is with that same joyous spirit that we salute his impressive body of work and his steadfast generosity."

While Borgnine's work ethic is admirable — he has three films due out this year — his personal politics are less than laudable. Four years ago, he waded into the discussion about the merits of the movie "Brokeback Mountain," the first film to feature A-list talent in a gay love story. As Borgnine told Entertainment Weekly, "I didn’t see it and I don’t care to see it. I know they say it’s a good picture, but I don’t care to see it." Then he added, "If John Wayne were alive, he’d be rolling over in his grave!"

"Ghost of Flight 401"

It still pops up from time to time in late night TV.

Ernie will get his award, regardless of what some hollyweird fairies say. He's a legend.

Bet the pussies react the same way they did with Elia Kazan.

That be the one.  If I close my eyes, I can still see a green Ernie.  More than 30 years ago, that image still remains.  Wow.

Ernest was never a matinee idol, woman never threw themselves at him, he made his claim to fame on talent and careful choice of scrips he found interesting.

Ernest has been just an everyday man, allot of us could relate to him as we knew or had someone in our family that resembled him.

Charles Bronson, Claude Atkins, even Humphrey Bogart, Edward G Robinson or Peter Lorie  were not a pretty face.

When I read that Ernest who reminds me of my Dad in looks and attitude said he would not watch Broke Back Mt. I can hear my Dads voice from the grave saying the same thing.     My Hubby refused to watch that movie when I rented the tape, now I ask  the big question.

When you spend 50-60 years in a trade be it acting or repairing cars, are you not allowed to voice an openion about how you feel about how the present day trade is different from the old days.?

To put it bluntly say one of us at his age was to get an award for past work in our carear  and promoting the Beef industry. We mention we will never eat Liver.  Along comes someone from the Cattlemans Ass. that takes offence and gets all the others in the association to demand that you retract that statement and publicly eat liver and onions or the Award for the work you did for them for the last 60 years will be taken away.

The people that want to deprive an old man a just award because he hurts some peoples feelings are really nasty, bottom of the barrel and scare the hell out of me.

70s disaster flick genre -- The Poseidon Adventure.  Good grief, how many times did radio stations play "The Morning After"?  Loved the movie though!  (when watching it now, does anyone else besides me throw in joke lines anytime Leslie Nielsen speaks? Can't seem to help it!  :-))

Ernie Borgnine served in the Navy for 10 years. It's really a sad statement that they are making. Just because he doesn't believe in the Hollyweird politics, he's going to be blacklisted?? It almost seems the opposite of the McCarthyism that went on during the 50s....

A nice Navy bio here: http://www.history.navy.mil/bios/borgnine_e.htm

He's a favorite of mine. For his Naval service and for his die hard support of the Navy League since. He is an out-spoken supporter of our military and the personnel who serve in it. He is a great American.

What a bunch of dicks at the Slimes.  Well, cocksuckers, bone-smugglers, and ass-pirates, really, I guess...
