I think Democrats will hold Congress, and possibly gain a few seats...I don't believe

Edited on Tue Aug-24-10 03:04 AM by old mark
the "anger at government" or the "midterm election wave" of the minority party...I think these things have become internet/MSM myths that have been believed because they have been repeated again and again...

I think there is no reason - judging by the primaries so far - that we should lose anything.

IF Democrats vote, we have the power to even gain a few seats in congress...

It is all in our hands - all we have to do is do it.

Not many posts in that thread.

23. If you look at the polling numbers

and the trend from other midterms, it looks like a real spanking from a realistic standpoint.

Spoil sport!

but I'm sorry, it's going to be a ****ing bloodbath.

No one cares about the blame game and no one cares about the good stuff that's been passed.

With 10% unemployment, no prospect for improvement and poverty as the "new normal" the electorate will "take it out" on the incumbents, especially the ones sharing the Party ID as the administration.

Obama needs to fire the ****-ups "fixing" the economy and make some drastic improvements... and it wouldn't hurt to rework the Heath Care debate to include a Public Option.

Ride the middle of the road in the slim amount of time with a majority congress and you've failed.

People should have started to see Health Care benefits by November... an expansion of Medicare or SOMETHING.

Everything is smoke/mirrors.

Health Care Reform that isn't helping ANYONE, and won't do MUCH at all in the future.

Ending a WAR by sending the soldiers to Afghanistan and leaving 50,000 in Iraq there to... ??

Ending DADT... without really ending anything.

:lmao:

10. The Main Stream Media has been stating Democrats will lose the House since January 20, 2009
The MSM has been indoctrinating their audiences with the 'fact' that the Democratic Party will not control the House of Representatives after the mid term elections of 2010. The MSM has been overtly engaged in influencing the outcome of the elections, and they are not even trying to hide it. Such is the state of unbiased journalism in this country today.

If the media had countered the non-stop spew from the right wing talkers such as Limbaugh and Hannity instead of repeating it, they would have noted a few glaring facts:

1. The Tea Party peaked in April and has been running down hill since
2. The voting public has an overwhelming negative opinion of Republicans
3. The Republicans have nothing to offer; they are just against anything from Democrats
4. The voters know it was the policies of Bush and his wars that wrecked the economy
5. The media does not have as much influence on voting as either Liberals or Republicans would like to think

Overall, the Republicans will make no significant gains in either the House or the Senate.

This guy . . .

I was listening to both Dr. Walter Williams and Dr. Thomas Sowell today and thinking is sad that a competent black man was not elected instead of a lying chicago shyster communist.

They're laying the psychological foundation now for being able to convince themselves in November that, "We wuz robbed!" I'm sure TIA will be back with some spreadsheets showing how they couldn't have lost without the election being stolen.

It was a top 10 hit by a guy called "Daddy Dewdrop" (a pseudonym for an American songwriter named Richard Monda) that peaked at #9 on the Billboard charts in 1971 (about the time I hit puberty  :naughty:)

Just like the MSM influenced the outcome of the 2008 presidential election by fellating the "chosen one".

Democrats privately fear House prospects worsening

By JIM VANDEHEI & ALEX ISENSTADT & MIKE ALLEN | 8/25/10 9:07 PM EDT
Top Democrats are growing markedly more pessimistic about holding the House, privately conceding that the summertime economic and political recovery they were banking on will not likely materialize by Election Day.

In conversations with more than two dozen party insiders, most of whom requested anonymity to speak candidly about the state of play, Democrats in and out of Washington say they are increasingly alarmed about the economic and polling data they have seen in recent weeks.

They no longer believe the jobs and housing markets will recover – or that anything resembling the White House’s promise of a “recovery summer” is under way. They are even more concerned by indications that House Democrats once considered safe – such as Rep. Betty Sutton, who occupies an Ohio seat that President Barack Obama won with 57 percent of the vote in 2008 – are in real trouble.

In two close races, endangered Democrats are even running ads touting how they oppose their leadership.

“Democrats kept thinking: ‘We’re going to get better. We’re going to get well before the election,’” said one of Washington’s best-connected Democrats. “But as of this week, you now have people saying that Republicans are going to win the House. And now it’s starting to look like the Senate is going to be a lot closer than people thought.”

If their wacko economic ideas had actually produced steady growth in the markets and started making real headway on unemployment, they'd actually be in reasonably good shape to hold on in both houses, with just the typical mid-term retrograde results.

However, unemployment seems to be stuck two full percentage points above their worst projections, and the markets are mired in a cycle of 5% advances and 3-5% declines, with a gradual snowball of disaster building since the acceleration that comes with sustained positive growth is necessary for the economic model followed by most businesses and individuals.  Such stagnation pushes more and more debtors irretrievably over the edge, building a wave of disaster over the horizon that may well crash home if no solid upward trend emerges by mid-Autumn.
