Title: How To Make Sure You Don't Accidentally Visit Organizations That Don't Want You
Post by: Chris on August 19, 2010, 04:04:21 AM
This is related to the Stephens Group/Righthaven lawsuits... the link goes to a blacklist add-on for Firefox and instructions on how to install it.

It only has one paper from my area on the list. I'm not sure I would want to blacklist their urls. I just wouldn't use anything more than a link from them as a source.

I would rather not take the chance of accidentally posting something from them, and checking every questionable link gets tedious.  The only paper near me is the Columbia Daily Herald.  Everything they print I can get from another source.

Stephens Group has a lot of different newspapers.  While the list of these organizations has been floating around for a couple of weeks, someone pointed out this useful Firefox add-on.

1. Install this Firefox add-on: http://bit.ly/dnCc8I

2. Copy the following into a .txt file and save it somewhere on your computer.

Is there some reason that we don't want to "visit" a RightHaven owned site?? While we need to restrict what content is copied from them and published here, I don't think we need to personally block their sites. My local paper is a RightHaven owned subsidiary. If I want any local news, I am forced to use their site. Again, as I pointed out upthread, not all of the urls are listed. I know of a good half a dozen newspapers/ online newspaper sites that are owned by RightHaven and are in my general area.

The following newspapers are RightHaven owned & in my general area:

* Anna-Melissa Tribune - Anna, TX
* Herald Democrat - Sherman, TX
* Grayson County Shopper
* Lake Texoma Life - Van Alstyne, TX
* Prosper Press - Prosper, TX
* Van Alstyne Leader - Van Alstyne, TX

All of them are within an hour from me, most are local for me.

I'll be more than happy to install this on my Firefox.  LVRJ has terrible stories anyway.  I'll stick to the silly liberals on Las Vegas Sun instead.  lol
