Mosque Debate Grows, Splinters
Wall Street Journal
August 17, 2010
By MICHAEL HOWARD SAUL And PETER WALLSTEN

PHILADELPHIA—Politicians beyond New York continued to stake out positions Tuesday on the controversy over plans to build an Islamic center and mosque near the site of the World Trade Center, but divisions emerged within each party over what has become a surprise issue in the 2010 elections.

In Pennsylvania's closely contested Senate race, the Democratic candidate, Rep. Joe Sestak, appeared with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and endorsed the rights of project organizers to construct the Islamic center at its proposed location. Mr. Sestak's position put him at odds with several other candidates in his own party, including Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who on Monday announced his opposition to the mosque's being built near the site of the destroyed towers in Manhattan.

The issue dominated a news conference Tuesday in which Mr. Bloomberg endorsed Mr. Sestak's Senate bid. Mr. Sestak, who had won the Democratic nomination over the opposition of Senate leaders and the White House, appeared pleased to once again highlight a difference between himself and Mr. Reid.

The Dems are really screwed at this point, besides this and the economy.

I'm regretting my "Go Sestak" comment in the chatbox a while ago. For many reasons, actually. :banghead: I just really couldn't take Specter. The guy is creepy evil. Probably supports the Mosque too.

Lesser of two evils, I guess. ::)

Edit: I'm actually also very surprised at Reid's stance on the Mosque. It's almost enough for me to say "Go Re....."

NAH!

You'd be right to do it, and I would not blame you one bit.  :cheersmate:

But even under medication going through a major surgery I've had in the past, I wasn't drugged enough to utter the full phrase.  :lmao:

Ya got that right. I'm a little surprised that I haven't read too much about that on the conservative blogosphere.

One waay to get leftist's heads spinning would be to ask Rauf and the others changed the name of "Cordoba House" to Park 51," and then tell them to look up "Cordoba House."

It's DUmor time!  :-) :hammer:

Sea, today there is a big fight going on to build a Casino abutting the site of the Gettysburg battle ground.

I wish I had a link but I just heard this yesterday on Fox and nothing since.
