Title: Hey Frank, or actually anyone, question re: the DU Fund Drive
Post by: Ballygrl on August 17, 2010, 06:47:56 PM
I just noticed that they have a banner on top of the forum and it lists the number of those who have donated, it's up to 247 now, but in the past didn't they have a money amount thing and say what the goal is? and they'd list the actual amount that has been donated so far? did they go this new route because of all the people who've been pizza'd? and because so many are unhappy there?

Unlike FR I don`t think skins has stated a dollar amount publically.
It would always show what percentage of the unknown amount has been donated.

That is recent so perhaps different in years past.

Oh OK, I might be confusing it with FR. Thanks!

Although people have asked for the accounting, I am not sure they've ever publicly stated it. I could be wrong on that. Their usual is just showing 1000 donations. I think everyone there who donates any money has a right to know how it is spent. But whatever.

I always thought that $kimmer had taken to using the line he picked up from Scamdy's boss lady: "we're just $10 away from [insert DUmp Monkey orgasm here]".

eeew.

I need to go bleach my mind now. :puke:

My fellow alum Skins has NEVER posted a dollar total, although five years ago he admitted that Skins's island rakes in about $25,000 per quarterly fund-raiser, or $100,000 a year.

But that was five years ago; the amounts of course could have risen or fallen since then.

It's "nice" to post a dollar amount, but as Skins's island is privately-owned real-estate, it's not necessary if the owner doesn't want to.  And so my fellow alum is simply exercising a reasonable right, in not posting dollar amounts.

This fund-raiser, if the number donating is an accurate clue (which it might, or might not, be), appears to be going slower than fund-raisers in the past.

This is why franksolich, when bringing a campfire from Skins's island over here, always puts in blue lettering a reminder under the name of a non-donating primitive, to gently remind that particular primitive to hurry up and donate.

Money of course means nothing, nothing at all, a mere bagatelle, even a nuisance, to my fellow alum Skins, who's interested in Higher Things--the guy makes St. Francis of Assisi look like money-grubbing Donald Trump--but because of the old school tie, franksolich feels compelled to help his non-materialistic fellow alum gin the money-mill, because franksolich, being more worldly than Skins, knows money's important.

I would guess that amount has gone up significantly. They've gotten many more members since 5 years ago. However, I feel they have probably declined some in the past couple of years.

I do wonder why they don't feel the need to post anything about it. OR why more people don't demand to see. They survive off of their donations for the most part. Which is why I always find it funny when someone questions something, and they get told to shut up or get banned. They must be in the low donating or non donating area. People like CP or whoever else donates the big bucks can do as they please and get protected to the max. It is the way it works there. Kinda goes against that democratic viewpoint.

Will Pitt for instance... I have no idea what he donates. None at all. He's popular there, so if he didn't donate a lot, many of the big time donaters (like CP, who worships WP) may have backed off on the donating. However, if I had done what he did, I would never be allowed back, and that goes for many many many other DUers. I would say that goes for most all DUers, except those chosen few.

I would think people would demand to know what a website rakes in, FR is open about theirs. And I do love your citing whether or not someone has donated Frank. :lmao:

It's just a public service, a friendly reminder, to late-paying primitives who lurk here.

<<always into public service.

Although it is only an estimate - the easiest way to get a figure is to count the stickies, and multiply by 10, as every sticky is worth 10 bucks.

Currently there are 271 of them so, $2,710.00

Of course, this number is low, because it excludes the $5 skinflints and those who donated an odd amount, like $25. I guesstimate an additional  50% of the total sticky figure to compensate, bringing the new total $4,065.

It's up to 459 as of this morning (Thursday morning).

Now time to get out the boat and row over to Skins's island to find the primitives who haven't donated yet, to gently remind them my fellow alum Skins, even though he disdains money, really needs the money.

It's up to 476 circa 12:30 p.m. central time, 11:30 a.m. mountain time.

I'm getting out the boat again, to row over to see which primitives donated, and which ones need reminded.

We should buy him a yacht as often as he sails over to the island so we don't have to! It's the least we can do! I'll bring it up at the next VRWC quarterly meetin' and try and get Lord Rove's initials on the PO!!

When they had about 5000 members the 1000 donations would be roughly 20%. Now with around 2250 that 20% would be 450 donations. They're keeping with my tombstone theory.  :-)
