THE DENTAL OFFICE SECRETARY PRIMITIVE
HAS NOT YET DONATED TO THE 3rd QUARTER FUND DRIVE FOR SKINS'S ISLAND!!!
Original message

Interesting and possibly tragic irony...

A good friend of mine is a professional who leans Republican and invariably votes Republican, 'cause he's made A LOT of money...I mean "A LOT OF MONEY" in his profession (I'm going to be deliberately vague).  Unfortunately for him, he discovered a lump and the excisional biopsy shows that it's a moderately treatable from of cancer, with a 65% survival rate at 5 years.

BUT...and there's always a 'but', he was telling me, very concerned, that he has a lousy health plan which he had
selected years ago FOR HIS EMPLOYEES (AND INCIDENTALLY HIMSELF)(!),and so I took the opportunity, WITHOUT rancor, to tell him that if the Obama H/C plan had been implemented directly after it was passed, then pre-existing conditions would not be a reason to turn someone away if they WISHED TO UPGRADE one's health plan, and that he'd be OK in this regard as it would be the LAW.

I wish for once, that life was videotaped, because the look on his face was PRICELESS.  It was WTF? to the fifth power...

Ah...if only more people were empathetic BEFORE "it happened to them"...

This is incredibly sad for him, for his family, and for me personally...I  consider him to be one of my best
professional friends and there's nothing I wouldn't do for him and vice-versa over 35 years of professional and personal association.  I always overlooked his politics because he was never an evil Rethug...he was the fiscal
conservative/socially libertarian type.  They, of course, have gone the way of the dinosaur...you know, the one that Adam and Eve rode when the Lord tossed them out of Eden.

It's a lonely campfire; no primitives have stopped by to comment.

I got news for the PC primitive, if the insurance companies are forced to cover pre-existing conditions, there's gonna be a whole lotta dyin' goin' on in this country!

Just think, you can wait until you have million dollar disease before ya actually have to pay a premium! Hell the fine for no insurance is less than my premiums! WTF do they think is gonna happen?

This of course, is relyin' on whether or not this bouncy has a thread of truth to it.

DUmmies lie, they lie all the time!

I feel dumber after reading this.

He made a lot of money so that's the only reason why he's a republican... did I understand that right?

I kinda skipped over that, but yeah, that's her story!

Woulda been a lot more convincing if he was bitchin' about the out of pocket expense he was gonna have to pay, wouldn't it?

Total :bouncy:

Let's indulge her for a moment though.

If this person is soooooooo rich as stated, the person would of chosen a top of the notch healthcare plan, just because employees have 1 plan doesn't mean everyone has to have that plan, most businesses that I know of have a choice of plans.

OK, now recently Medicare announced they wouldn't be paying for Avastin treatments for certain types of cancers, I think 1 of the cancers mentioned was Ovarian. Now do these fools actually think that Medicare for all type of insurance would mean unlimited treatment? These fools have no idea that death panels will exist and here's some proof of what the "progressives" think about what kind of healthcare they want implemented:

He claims the guy has insurance but it's crappy.  I thought Clinton fix the pre-existing thing for us in 1996?

Quote
Under the provisions of HIPAA, group health plans only can exclude coverage for a pre-existing condition if an applicant received medical advice or treatment for this condition during the six months immediately before enrolling in the health plan. This is called the "look-back period." The period for which a group insurer can deny coverage for a pre-existing condition is called an "exclusion period" and can last no longer than 12 months for most applicants (up to 18 months if someone is a so-called "late applicant," someone who missed the annual open enrollment period for the health care plan).

Some group health plans apply these exclusion periods to their members' coverage while others do not. When someone signs up for insurance (usually as part of starting a new job), they should receive a notice in the summary plan description that will detail if the plan might apply a pre-existing condition exclusion.

HMOs

Health maintenance organizations (HMOs) and other managed care plans usually do not apply pre-existing condition exclusions, but they can apply what is called an "affiliation period". An affiliation period is the time before HMO coverage begins.

Maybe he should sign up for an HMO?  Also, how much does this idiot think insurance is going to cost once insurance companies are forced to cover anyone no matter what the circumstance? What if they wait to get insurance until after they get diagnosed with a life threatening illness?  Because that is just what everyone is going to do.

In NJ a pre-existing condition is covered as long as you have proof you had insurance coverage before applying to the new company.

Again I'll ask this question that I've asked in the past

"do you purchase fire insurance when your house is on fire"?

The purpose of insurance is to have it in case you get sick, and while some people can't afford it, IMO? many people can but CHOOSE to spend the money on other things. I worked in the Medical Field for 20 years, I have friends still in the field, and you wouldn't believe the abuses that go on and the reasons why people choose not to carry insurance.

You might want to also include informing him that his premium (and likely the premiums of others participating in that group plan) would shoot through the roof.  You can't pop the drain on the pool without adding more water and expect it to not eventually run dry.

But if he made all the money you claim he did, he would already know that basic principle of business.  I say bouncy.
