I'd like to know how a family with kids can make it in today's economy?

I do a lot of shopping with my wife and the prices of everything has gone through the roof. And I mean everything. All the while incomes are dropping.

And this is with just two of us and a couple of dogs and we can barely make it from payday to payday.

How the hell do people raising a couple of little kids do it?

I can't figure this one out.

Don

My guess would be they don't blow all their money on dope they buy groceries and pay bills instead.

My family is getting by just fine on my income alone.  Don't know what this guy is bitching about.

I have a coupon of online friends who are big on couponing, it takes them a few hours a week, but 1 of them saves almost half per month. People do what they have to do and sometimes it takes a little effort.

It's the grouchy old primitive after all.

Don, or the "NNN0LHI" primitive, is just an old grouch.

The cat wasn't around to kick, so Don probably looked around for something else to gripe about.

How long until someone demands a raise of the corp tax rate, because those evil corps are price gouging?  :uhsure:

I don't know what these DIpSHits expect when their savior is printin' money faster than the DemonCRap congress can come up with a new 3,000 page welfare bill to spend it?

I'm doing quite well thank you very much you stupid DUmmie.

200 sq meter house that I pay 750 Euro/month for.  Just got a raise in January.  7th straight year that's happened.  Single income two teenaged kids living at home.

There's money to be made DUmmies...IF you're willing to work for it.

They have no common sense or logical thinking. And yet, him and his wife both probably voted for the communist in the first place and they're complaining about the jobs/economy. Ironic isn't it!?!? STUPID DUmmies! :censored: :mental: :bird:

750 E a month for a 2000 sq ft house?  In Deutchland?  Color me impressed.  Obviously not near any major urban areas, that's for sure.

I'd love to see what items fall into the category of 'need', instead of 'want', for this DUmmie.

I bet I can just copy my liberal in-laws list over, and it would be accurate.

My in-laws do try to save money on some things, though.  When their projection TV broke, and he replaced the coolant fluid with vegetable oil, all the while insisting that it was the same thing.  I never got a straight story on what he told the repairman when he finally broke down and called him.

Remember, he is one of yours, DUmmies.   :lmao:  :loser:

My daughter started "couponing" a couple of months ago. She said she saved $78 the other day at the grocery!!! She uses both product company issued coupons and store coupons.

I can't figure out how she's saving so much, but the kids are almost 10 months and 3.5, and they have two labs...maybe she saves so much because she's using products that I just don't....dog food, diapers, little kid food, etc.

I don't find very many coupons on the stuff I buy. I did find out that I can "load" coupons into my Kroger card, and when I scan my card, the coupons will be auto-deducted from the receipt. Now, I just have to figure out how to get them loaded.

It should do it automatically. Just log into to the Kroger website and add them on. That's what I do.

Are your Krogers as expensive vs. the competition as they are here where I live?  The only stores they are cheaper than are the hipster stores that you would find DUmmies buying 'organic' goods.

We've pretty much stopped going there, except for one or two things, and only when they go on sale.

We've pretty much stopped going there, except for one or two things, and only when they go on sale.

I started grocery shopping at Walmart about 2 years ago, because Kroger's was sooooo expensive!

Partly because of little competition. Basically we have Kroger's, Food City - which is really expensive, a couple of Ingles - none near me, Walmart/Sam's, Target(higher than Kroger), Fresh Market - which is wonderful for meat and deli, but very expensive, Earth Fare - been in it once - organic type stuff, ridiculously expensive. And a few "neighborhood" type small grocers scattered about. There's a small Aldi's about 25 minutes from me, I've been in it a couple of times, and wasn't impressed. There's a new one being built on my side of town, that's supposed to be pretty large, I suppose it will open before the holidays.

The last 3-4 months, I have been hitting Kroger about once or twice a month, out of convenience, and less people in it than Walmart. I think their prices have come down - at least on stuff I routinely buy and know about what they cost. And I have noticed that several things that I always buy at Walmart, have gone up in price.

Health and beauty stuff seems to be less most of the time at Walmart, as opposed to Kroger. The cat food (Iams) keeps going down in price at Walmart too, it's was down last week almost $2.50 a bag from what it was back in early winter, and wasn't on sale.

A 12 pack of pop is $4 something at Walmart, yet a 24 pack has been $5, but went up to $5.99 last week. Kroger has 12 packs on sale about every other week, buy 3 for $12 and get the 4th free. Kroger's doing a lot of the "10 for $10" sales....it's staple stuff, but it's usually a good deal, if you have the room to store the stuff, and it's stuff you would buy anyway.

If I'm buying any type of beef roasts, steaks or tenderloin, I prefer to buy them at Walmart/Sam's. It's better than what Kroger has. Doesn't seem to be much difference in chicken and pork, though pork tenderloins are cheaper at Walmart or Sam's - same brand. I like Sam's for lamb chops and they have the best tenderloin, of anyone in town, unless I want to rob a bank and buy it at the Fresh Market, where it's at least double in price!

I guess I should try a month at Kroger and see if my total is more or less than Walmart.

We're supposedly getting a Publix...but I've heard that for several years. I know they were cheaper in Florida than Kroger's here. I was in one over in the Nashville area last year right before New Year's and they seemed less than Walmart on most things.

We need competition here! Maybe it will bring everyone's prices down.

Well, what we do in our household is really complicated.

1)  Wake up at 5am
2)  Shower
3)  Feed our daughter
4)  Head out the door a little after 7am.
5)  I have daycare duty, so I drop our daughter off.
6)  Go into work
7)  Work for my money until 4:30pm
8)  Pick up my daughter from daycare
9)  Come home
10) Relax
11)  Go to bed around 10-10:30pm so we can do it all again.

When we go grocery shopping, we use coupons and only buy what is on sale.  We don't go into electronic stores and buy every new gadget that is released.

To put it in simpler terms, we don't spend our money senselessly.

Very well said.  :cheersmate:
But you know the DUmmies, libs and progressives need either their "head meds" or "medical marijuana". So that's where most of their money goes. Because they are all =  :loser:

There is no way my one square environmentally responsible butt will be coming close to any square of t.p. came off anything less than a
100% post-consumer content, scented, aloed, buttered, embossed, disinfected, melodic, unprinted, waxed, dill pickled roll.  It costs more, but it is totally worth it.

And that "organic" TP costs $4 a roll at Whole Foods, etc., while my environmentally disastrous (but septic system safe!) 36 mega-roll pack costs about $30 at the local BJ's/Sam's Club.

An 18-count package of the good stuff is only ten bucks at Wal-Mart.

Remember.  You only saved money if you put the money you "saved" in savings.  I do a recon with my receipts every week to transfer that money into my savings acct.

That's a good idea.  We are still paying down some credit card debt.  We like to use our savings from shopping on that.  I guess we could split it 50/50.

Yes, and it sucks.  But I do it, and it does make a difference.  But then again, I have to do something to take care of me in my old age.

I was into it for a little bit, especially couponing at CVS, I'll see if I can get back into it and find some links and start a thread on it in the right forum.

Couponing has been a life saver with diapers and formula.  My wife finds these people who are just giving away coupons for free packs of diapers.  Gets like 5 packs at a time for no cost at all.  She was able to do that with formula as well when Daniel was younger.
