2. The newborn babies in the hospitals had it coming, eh?
I am really beginning to wonder about some of my fellow human beings.
Don

7. Yeah, but the thing is, Japan was ready to surrender,
Serious behind the scenes negotiations were going on. The one sticking point, Japan wanted to keep their emperor as head of state, US wanted unconditional surrender. Japan refused to budge, we bombed Japan, who then surrendered, and we allowed Japan to keep their emperor
In reality, our use of nukes was aimed more as a demonstration against Russia than as a means to ending the war. We killed hundreds of thousands of innocents in order to show the world that we had "The Big One."
It was all Karl Rove's doing too.

Yeah, I know this message will be deleted, but I don't care and it needs to be said.
The civilians in Japan didn't start the war. Their government did. What we did was unforgivable, dropping the atomic bombs and killing hundreds of thousands of innocent Japanese civilians. We should be begging them for forgiveness.
Look I don't jump for joy that we did it but, at the time it was required to end the war.

No room for racism on DU.
Hell DU is full of racism.

Hmmmm...which would the DUmmies be more horrified by--the 100K civilians killed in the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, or the estimated 10 MILLION civilians which would have been killed had we invaded using Operation Downfall?

They don`t know history Sparky and in fact any thought of it and its context is like a cross to a vampire.
The USA is the evil of the ages and anything in disagreement has to be silenced.

Oh, I'm already dealing with the liberal revisionist crap that is now being put forth that the bombs weren't necessary because (gasp!) The RUSSIANS declared war on Japan on August 8th!

Japan has my sincere apology for dropping the bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima
But no one cares if you apologize for it. Based upon your political beliefs, your opinions, and thus your apology, is irrelevant.

The DUmmy sacks-o-shit would be saying the same thing they are saying today about Iraq and Afghanistan: We should not have invaded and the millions dead were solely our fault.
-
Oh geez! Who's got the "Not this shit again" pic?
The "innocent" Japanese were goin' to arm themselves with everything they could get their hands on in order to repel an American or Ally invasion! Every man, woman, and child had already thrown in with their idiot military, whether they liked it or not! Did none of these dipshits pay attention to the the history books? Not only just ours, but theirs?
We would have lost at least 250,000, and most strategists put the number at twice that in the first week! If we had lost that many, how the **** many men, women and children, do ya 'spose they would have lost, a frikkin' million or more, ya DUmbass?
This is what always puts you idiots ahead of us logical thinkin' conservatives, ain't it, ya frikkin' morons? Your super dooper intellect!
Believe what you want asshats, but we actually saved Japanese lives by droppin, Little Boy and Fat Man!
Suck on that idiots!
-
I would think that Japanese Whaling would be enough for these idiots for it to be "Even Steven" with the way they justify things. The OP must not watch Whale Wars.

Considering that these are the same DUmb****s who gloss over the fact that communism/socialism has cost the planet well in excess of 100 million lives over the past 100 years or so in their headlong rush to embrace socialist totalitarianism, what makes you think that it's even about the body count? How do you figure they're even going to bat an eyelash at a measely 10 million deaths against that avalanche of bodies.
-
DUmp "logic" = America won, so it must be "all our fault." :loser:
-
Listen primitives, in terms you can understand...
There were two choices involving Japan.
A) Invade them and beat the whole country into a pulp.
B) Kick Japan in the balls..twice...
-
Uh. No. **** Nagasaki and Hiroshima, and by the way, **** Dresden too. Don't start shit with people who will kill you.
helpful hint in life, and international relations

The same Russians who lost the Russo-Japanese War? Those Russians, the ones whose asses had been kicked all over by the Nazis were going to stop the Japanese single handed? OK...

I think we ****ed them pretty good the first time, didn't we?
japan is a peaceful nation, and a reliable ally. I say that we do what we have to do to keep them in our camp.

Sure, now that we showed them, we are not to be screwed with.

**** Japan, they consistently want us out of their country. Apologizing wouldn't change that and more to the point there is nothing to apologize for.
Which other camp are they gonna go to?? China? Korea? Russia? For some reason a "snowballs chance in hell" comes to mind.

Why apologize to Japan for ending a war they started in the 30's with the invasion of the Korean peninsula
and China? Have the Chinese been apologized to for the brutal "Rape of Nanking" in which a 250,000
men, women and children were murdered by Japanese troops? Have the Korean comfort women been apologized to? What about the victims of the medical experiments from Unit 732?
crickets

Most of my family wouldn't be here today. My dad was a gunners mate on a destroyer. My uncle was in one of the first Army units into Hiroshima after the bomb. Both of them praised Truman's decision their whole lives.

Sure, now that we showed them, we are not to be screwed with.
Uh, you forgettin' who's CIC at the moment? If he had his way, we'd be a third world country inside of a week!

I guess that I'd add an apology for the fact that our weapons design was so crude that the yield was only about ten kilotons each........two fifty megaton airbursts would likely have shortened Japan's surrender decision time from a week, to a few hours........saving even more American lives......
They can also be thankful that I didn't make the decision.....or one of the targets would have been Tokyo.......

correct, thank you

Japan started it. We ended it in such a way to ensure it will never be started again.
Unconditional surrender was their only option.

So.....this is the typical primitive reaction to something; "I'm sorry."
Whoop-dee-do.
Whoopee shit.
The grouchy old primitive thinks that saying "I'm sorry" is enough.
What's done is done, and can't be undone.
(The right thing was done in this case, but never mind.)
What's done is done, and can't be undone.
Just merely muttering "I'm sorry" doesn't do shit.
It's kind of like when the primitives send pictures of "white light," rather than cash, to other primitives.
-
Don't you all love it when they cry about the two Atomic bombings to ever occur but yet all the shit done by the Germans never "happened" or if they did they never say shit about it. The US did what it did so all of us would live in peace and be free you got a problem with how we reached that goal then feel free to find yourselves a nice game of hide and go **** yourselves.
