Congressman Stark: "The Federal Government Can Do Most Anything"

~snip~

At a July 24 town hall meeting, a female attendee asked, (referring to the mandate in the federal health care bill passed earlier this year requiring Americans to purchase medical insurance), "If this legislation is constitutional, what limitations are there on the federal government's ability to tell us how to run our private lives?" With a brief appearance of that "deer in the headlights" look, Pete, to his credit gave only a somewhat half-assed answer. The same female attendee then had to very simply explain how enumerated powers work according to the United States Constitution: It spells out certain powers of the federal government and splits all other power with the states. She then asked how the legislation is constitutional, and if the federal government could make individuals purchase what is, for now, a completely voluntary service, what can't they do? The question was put even more bluntly: "Is your answer that they can do anything?"

Pete's response? "The federal government, yes, can do most anything in this country."

That's a bloody brazen remark which naturally drew a negative reaction, but what made me almost fall out of my chair was Pete's next flash of brilliance. As the booing was dying down, a comment was made that he, and people that think like him, "are destroying this nation." In a statement that made me shoot Dr. Pepper that I drank a month ago through my nose, Pete said, "And I guess you're here to save it. And that makes me very uncomfortable."

Words fail me.  Why can't we get rid of this guy?   :banghead:  Are we reduced to wishing he passes away in office?  Who votes for an asshole like this?

OpenCongress has his approval rating at 35%.

Heard this on the radio several times yesterday.  What a piece of work.  He needs to be recalled ... like ASAP.

Why can't we get rid of this guy?

He represents a portion of the San Francisco Bay area (big surprise!). That's why.

Because we've been 'okey dokey'd'.  We've forgotten that WE are the ones with the power.  Until we re-learn that valuable lesson we are at their mercy.
