This time tomorrow, my family and I will be on our way. This will be my first time going, so I'm more excited than any of you know. So much to see, and do, I don't think there'll be a dull moment. Our hotel will be right across from MSG too. I'll be gone 4 or 5 days, and coming back via Amtrack on the 7th, so you guys take care if I don't talk to you again after today. If any of you have been, and liked anything particularly well, leave a suggestion.
PS: The two things I am most certainly doing are going to see Avenue Q off Broadway, (hell of a lot cheaper) and visiting Ground Zero to pay my respects to the fallen citizens, and the 343 FDNY soldiers. That last one is something I've wanted to do since the attacks, and I finally get the chance.

Don't kill yourself or your family trying to do it all. If you like planes and/or Navy stuff, check out the Intrepid museum.
-
Have a blast! Don't be too disappointed in the Statue .... the French thought it was HUGE! :-)

Looks interesting... take lots of pictures.
-
^ The digital camera is definitely going.
-
The most important thing, enjoy yourself! Watch out for the crazy drivers when you cross the street.
-
Thanks. I've heard from several people that traffic is so conjested a lot of times that people can just pivot their way across. Though, that won't stop me from looking both ways. ;)
-
I saw Avenue Q when we went to New York a few years ago. I thought it was great.

I went down there in May 09 and it isn`t that bad as far as traffic.
Lots of people but everyone gives each other room and just observe the crossing signals.
That was in Manhattan, don`t know about the rest of the city.
From upstate it is an evil drag on the political and economic futures of the state but to visit and sight see it is quite a place.

That's where our hotel is, Carl. Manhattan. Unless I'm just mistaken about where MSG is located. We're staying right across from The Garden.
And thanks for the info, BEG. I've enjoyed listening to them for a while. Now I actually get to SEE them!! :hyper:

I stayed in the Hotel Pen right over the road from MSG when I was in NYC.

:rotf: Nice. I was just trying to find a song about NYC. Jay-Z's was an easy one to pick. I'm not really one for Rap/R&B, but I kinda like that one.
I like the spoof too. :-)

Have fun. Expect a very long wait in line if you want to go out to see Lady Liberty though. We went a few years pre-9/11 and we waited in line for over 2 hours. I understand that with the new security screening the wait can be much much longer.

I don't know. We may just take the ferry out to see 'er.
-
Make a day of it, both the Liberty Science Center and Ellis Island are on the ferry circuit (I lived in Jersey when we took the kids). If Ellis Island doesn't choke you up, you're dead inside.

Hotel across from MSG wasn't terrific, but it wasn't bad at all. Whole place only played MESSNBC, or CNN though. :censored: They didn't carry FNC, and I'm surprised, because I think their building is somewhere around there. NYC is a blast. Literally a drug in and of itself. Went down to see Ground Zero, and it's such a humbling experience. Moved me to the verge of tears. Also saw the Empire State Building, and had a Manhattan in Manhattan. ****ing things an straight alcohol, and about 4 shots. Love them. Also went to an Irish pub and had a beer for $5.50. I only had one, coincidentally. The subway is fantastic, albeit extremely stuffy/humid. I now see how people can live down there. They have everything, and there's 2 floors! Didn't care for Macy's, but I loved the vendors. NYC pizza is some of the best pizza I've ever had. Got a slice cheap at $4.50 too! Didn't see Lady Liberty, or Ellis Island, but I can save that for another point in my life. Pictures will follow in the next few days.
Sorry if I just kind of "threw the paint on the page." I just got back to the old homestead, and am buzzing from the trip. The 2 train rides home wasn't real fun though. :(
More to follow later...

Sounds like you had a blast

Welcome home, and look forward to seeing your pictures.

Looking forward to your photos... glad you had fun...

I e couple photos in some other thread I looked for but couldn't freaking find. I missed a couple though. I may just post all of 'em I can find even if they're duplicates. Just to refresh my memory as well as off of yours.

Radio City, baby. Just like MSG, we didn't go in, but I would've loved to.

We shall never forget.

The concrete jungle is majestic

I love this photo. Love that Leary Firefighter Foundation too, but it has since tattered, and passed way. I'll get another one eventually. My Leary hair was quite awesome too, and it's getting out there again. :-) I think I'm going to get back to it.
Damn, I'm good looking. :slightlyconcieted:
I only brought this thread back up because somewhere around October/November....I'm GOING BACK!!!! Only this time, I'll be going on my own, and being visually impaired, I might have a slim bit of a hard time getting around. I don't worry too much though, cause I'm planning on going back to the Hotel Pennsylvania. I'm also planning on getting help from one of the many red hats if I need it. I did want to let any of you know that those two months are around the time I'll be coming if you want to meet Revolution. As usual, this are always subject to change, but that's the plan as of now.

I was recently on an assignment and my hotel was the Marriott across the street from Ground Zero (now the new tower). I got some cool pics of the tower mid-build as well as the tribute fountains.
I have been at the same hotel a few times since 9/11 -- the first time about a year after. That was strange in that they were still cleaning up and had the posters of "missing people" still up.
NYC is a lot better to visit since 9/11 that 5 years or more before then. Have a great time!

The proper greeting in NYC is "How you doin" ?". The only proper response is "How you doin" ?". Nothing more need be or is expected to be said.

Great pictures! Looks like a fun trip!

When you go this time, smile for a picture...mmmkay? :-)

Let me know when you do. I'll see about scheduling a field visit in Westchester or Rockland counties then . . .

Sweet.
No promises, ladies. :-)
I might also have to look into the Marriott, actually. That soundsd more fitting for me to satay at. It'd be nice. I just have to look into pricing for the both of them.
Edit: Holy crap! Just got to looking, and the Marriott is usually 200+ a night. Except around late December when it dips to the 170s 180s which is weird, and cool all at the same time. Do you guys think I should hold off, and try to go to ring in 2013. That would just be a dream come true of mine. Maybe I could meet hottie news anchor Megyn Kelly. :naughty:
-
Little Italy is the only reason I would go to the City.
Don't drink the water, I piss in it.
Don't buy the fish in Chinatown.
Don't let "hot" women lead you upstairs.
Beware of dirty water dogs.

Or my classmate. O-) Actually, Megyn Kelly is from about seven miles from where I'm sitting as I type this. :-)
