Can somebody convince me Dems won't cave on Bush Tax Cuts?
I got that Charlie Brown about to kick the football feeling again.

1. They absolutely won't cave on this
until they pragmatically do.

2. They're probably planning to keep their powder dry. Or something.

9. Yeah...in twenty years, they'll have the powder appraised on THE ANTIQUES ROADSHOW
(Which, by then, will be the only show left on PBS).

3. The Dems will do as always and do what the Republican leadership tells them to do.

4. Because the polls show that the Bush Tax cuts for wealthy aren't popular
Democrats are political animals.
Extending the tax cuts for those under $250K, while expiring them for those over $250K... is both good policy AND good politics.
They want to win. The GOP has the unteneble position here, with respect to the majority of voters.
Oh, I dunno.
We'll see.

6. Polls also showed that Americans wanted a public option
How did that turn out?
Anybody ever see one of them legendary polls?

11. I'm still smarting about that one. Why we make health care so damn complicated and expensive is beyond me. Keeps the insurance mafia happy.

7. Yeah, this is what I think too. Anyway, IMO, if trickle down voodoo economics worked, we wouldn't be in this mess today. I wish the D's would throw more of the R's crap back in their faces most of the time.

5. No,
Hmmm.
The oregano primitive's avatar says AVATAR REMOVED DUE TO 3rd PARTY CAMPAIGN.
One wonders what's up with that.

8. When they do, the usual bloc of cyber-jerks will be here defending them
And saying that anybody who disagrees with them "wants a pony".
(Of course, they'll say that if we escalate again in Afghanistan next July).

10. Define "cave".
I don't think they will be rolled back for people making under 250K. Over 250K, I think they will. I suspect the estate tax will return, albeit with a higher exemption than there was in 2001.

I'm surprised Oregone left that there -
That is what DU replaced Joe Lieberman's image with when he went independent years back. before then, the Lieberman avatar was part of DU's standard set.
I do not know if this means Oregone approves of Joe Lieberman, or if the primitive finds humor in what the avatar was replaced with.

I suspect the GOP will have a tough time filibustering on this to make it all or nothing, the real question I think is whether it can even come up before the election with all the rest of the crap they've put off. There's a pretty good chance it'll get put off until the lame duck session, though on the plus side that means the GOP will be more likely to be able to hold their caucus together on an all-or-nothing position.

I don't think the donks need any republicans as they can use reconciliation on the tax cuts. I fully expect a 3000 page bill that will quietly steal more freedoms away on pages 2500-2850 that not one single dem ill read.

Reconcialiation of what? The budget bill has already been kicked down the road until after the election.

It has to do with the budget so the donks will insist that they can use it. The media will piss down their legs saying how smart they are and it will pass.
-
I'm no expert on Congressional procedure, but I think to use reconciliation, they still have to have a bill as a vehicle for it; generally with taxes, a spending/budget bill, and the only one they haven't kicked down the road (Supplemental war spending bill) is I believe already in the can.

Some DemonRat was on the House floor the other day suggesting to extend the cuts to help the economy and got told to pound sand, as Bummawipe would just Veto it anyway!
