I have this feeling of impending doom. Anyone else have that, too? Updated at 2:09 PM
I'm reading so many articles about how much ground the average American worker and family have lost since the 1960's, and I think, even if we have a recovery for the billionaires, how will that help all the rest of us?
I have this feeling that between the game being rigged and bumping up against the limits of certain important resources like water and arable land and oil, we are never going to get back to "normal." I fear things will keep getting worse and worse. In the back of my mind, I think, even though I am doing fine right now due to my husband being military, this won't last - how can a broke nation continue to pay its military? And I expect a day not too far off where the paychecks stop. It seems to me to be very possible to starve to death in today's America.
On top of that, I feel so many of my fellow Americans have gone insane. Those who feel Palin would be the best president - those who are certain beyond any doubt that the end of the world will happen within the next few years (and who secretly maybe want to make it happen with nuclear war or whatever.)
I'm just not able to tell myself anymore that maybe things will be okay. That maybe we can turn this ship around in time to avoid the iceberg. I think we have already hit the iceberg and I think we are going down. And those of us not already in the icy water, anticipate the way it's going to feel, and shiver.

11. These are scary times.
I can't find any work at all, I have no money coming in, and I'm 50, years from social security or medicare.

19. I know you do.
You're a good person. Adoption? Not a bad idea. Maybe I can find a nice family that needs a wired Uncle that's really good at growing cannabis.
Well crap how is it this dummy can't find a job?
Half the jobs here have a requirement of being able to grow pot plants. :lmao:
Maybe if you quit growing weed and stopped smoking it you could pass a drug test and get a job.

28. I'm just waiting for the shooting to start.
I think we're headed for either a revolution and/or civil war.
Chances are we won't be the ones firing the first shot but, we will fire the last one.

That's the difference between DUmmies and conservatives. I have no fear of starving. I have weapons and ammunition. I can shoot squirrel, deer, rabbits, wild hogs (Oh my LORD can I shoot wild hogs Texas is overrun with them), I can plant and grow my own vegetables .... WHY would anyone worry about starving?

From the thread:
Robdogbucky
34.....I think the Al Frankens, the Alan Graysons, the Elizabeth Warrens, et al, can, if prodded enough, lead us to a brighter day.
Those are your messiahs?

33. Good advice. :) My greatest joy in life is my husband and my kitty and my friends here at DU.
You need new friends.

26. Welcome to the club!
I've felt beaten down since Reagan with a reprieve under Clinton. Then an immense, crushing of hope under Bush II. All that aside, the worst foreboding feeling I've had started a few weeks before the gulf oil disaster.
This guy has been miserable his ENTIRE LIFE! :lmao: :loser:

42. OHOH, my right wing father has made threatening statements about if I continue to believe and participate in lefter causes. I will starve if he tosses me, before I fight for my disability payments. I will be damned if starvation and death by the elements will cow me to be rightwing. By anyone, including my father.
Well, you'll be dead anyway, so what?

I bet what really happened was, "Son you just turned 30 isn't it time you found a damn job?'

Your feeling of doom will be fully realized in Nov.

And the crushing end will come on January 20th, 2013 . . . :evillaugh: :fuelfire:

You don't have fellow Americans. Just fellow travelers. You and all your associates stopped being Americans long ago, if you ever were.
-
Yep...and I've felt it ever since Jan 20, 2009.
I am hoping to start feeling better in about 90 days. :-)

That's Funny. When I read DU, I am frequently overwhelmed with the feeling of impending dumb.
