Our apologies for the outage. Looking into it now, but it wasn't on our end. I was
investigating as soon I noticed the problem last night at appx midnight. I wasn't able
to file an online helpdesk request last night because THAT server was down as well. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
I finally got an email resopnse saying they were looking into it, and the thing popped
back up just a few minutes later.
Our server hasn't been rebooted or reset, so this is all on them.

I started to bring the dreamhost site up with one of two panic forums this morning, and
ran into a freaking blizzard of problems there, too.
-
I put the redirect back up. the dreamhost site just did NOT respond like I expected it
to . . . I don't know if it was holdover issues from their big migration friday night.
-
it looks like it checked out promptly at 12:30 last night. I saw it shortly thereafter. unfamiliarity
with the trouble reporting process probably didn't help us get this thing fixed any quicker than it
did. who expected to be down three days after the thing got there?
colopronto's explanantion:
"We have seated the NIC a different port and the server now appears to be responding to ping."
which i suppose means that they have a bad port on the network, although the sentence is a
bit of a disaster . . .

I took down the redirect on the dreamhost site in order to bring up a few panic forums over
there, and the site was inactive. I mean it literally said "INACTIVE". I fumbled around and
found a "reactivate" button, which sounded like a good idea at the time, but when I clicked
it, I saw DNS records being propigated. I knew that was going to take some time.
thankfully, the colopronto guys found our problem very shortly after that.

an intermittent problem on their network perhaps makes sense now in retrospect.
yesterday afternoon i was noticing that round trip time into our server from my
computer was about 5 times what I was used to seeing, and round trip time out
from our server to google was taking about 3times as long as I had been seeing.
I decided I was just unfamiliar with what "normal" turned out to be at colopronto.
it turns out I was whistling past the graveyard. :whatever:
-
the old site is directing traffic from the old URL to our new site once again.
*whew*. that was harder than it should have been.
-
I was not able to use my old bookmarked URL (conservativescave.com) and I've been off since last week. I just assumed that the server migration wasn't complete. I got a wild hair and decided to try typing in "conservativecave.com" and I found the site.

some people had problems with the redirect . . . I don't understand it; I was never one of them.
a cavalcade of errors . . . but we have been up on the new site since thursday night late(ish).
friday night through saturday morning the redirect that we put up at dreamhost was down because dreamhost was down. then we were down from about 12:30 until about 9:30 this morning because someone at colopronto tripped over our ethernet cable, or something. the redirect wouldn't have worked then because we were on our butts. then at 8:30 or so this monring, I tried to take down the redirect and put up a "panic forum" at dreamhost, and it went totally to hell on me. the redirect wasn't back up until, well, I don't know, whatever time I mentioned that I thought it was working again.
anyway, glad you finally made it, however you made it. :)
