Would this make me a "socialist"? Updated at 2:35 AM
I would like to see a more radical agenda:
A 35-hour or 37 1/2 hour work week. Somehow I think you want to make them pay for 40 hours though
A one-year moratorium on all FICA taxes under $30,000. Why only one year?
A national holiday for election day. This one never bothered me then again I like any excuse for a holiday :-)
Public funded elections. Sure stick the tax payer with the bill for people to take even more money from them
An increase in the minimum wage of $1.00 per hr. Only one dollar an hour? Why not 10?
Take the cap off income for Social Security purposes. Lets take more money from people at gunpoint
All income not invested would be taxed at 70%. Does that include your money too?
Jobs would be offered to every able-bodied person willing to work. Are those min wage jobs that you want guaranteed?
Those not willing or able to work, would get a guaranteed income equal to half of those that work. Yay more freebies from those who do work
Every state would have a referendum to stop automatic pay raises for Congressmen and Senators. This one I could go for
Products made in other countries by American companies would be taxed at a much higher rate than domestic products. What are you bigoted against foreigners?
We would begin withdrawal of 50% of all our troops around the world and re-evaluate military pensions and all government pay-outs. You can tell the retired Marines that you are cutting their pay
Limit all political contributions to the same amount, corporations or individuals, to $1000. Why would we need any contributions if its all public funded?
Create a single-payer health care system and take insurance totally out of healthcare business. Great idea we are already going to send out checks to everyone under your plan why not free health care too?
Reform the estate taxes to 90% for everything above $500,000. Good idea that will show those mom an pop businesses
Take back our airwaves from the corporate propagandists. In other words ban fox and the EIB
Re-instate Glass Steagall Act to regulate big banks. Why only big banks?
Term limits for Congress - 3 terms for the House and 2 terms for the Senate. Cool that will keep us from having the next Byrd or Kennedy
Crack down on corporate welfare and corporate crime. What about regular wellfare and crime?
Then you could call me a socialist - like Barack Obama. :-) I already call you that
I posted this on another site just for thought fodder for the tea baggers.

Funny he doesn't seem to mention which teabagger site.

16. Exactly. Socialism means you care about your fellow
human and want them to fare as well as you do in the world.
No actually it means you wanna knock down successful people to your level.

32. Had the Teabaggers lived 2,000 years ago, they'd have called Jesus a socialist
You are right. When Jesus petitioned the govt and made the Romans hand over all the fish and loaves we would have said see he's a socialist. Oh wait I just re read the story he asked for volunteers and a boy willingly shared what he had.

2. I like the way you think.

The only thing I could disagree with on that list is the minimum wage hike. I think minimum wage should be at least $10.
Why so low shouldn't min wage be a living wage?

Perhaps the mis-communication is that you think he's referring to the TEA party patriots, and he's actually referring to the blog site his butt buddy posts erotic pictures of them on.

Funny...I have a very hard time believing Jesus would buy into the WHOLESALE SLAUGHTER OF HIS UNBORN CHILDREN that you smelly lefties are so proud to enforce.

If DUers had been around 2000 years ago they would've called Jesus a fundy wackjob, derided him for his talk about an imaginary sky fairy and cursed him as a fascist for telling people how to live their lives.
Lots of prototypical liberals were wiped out in Sodom and Gomorrah. Today's liberals should be glad Jesus brought forth a New Covenant.

I've heard DUmors call Jesus a liberal, but this is a first for "socialist"....

That's perfect.
Cut the pensions of the people whose lives were put on the line to protect your worthless sorry asses, after the fact, but not one word about cutting the ridiculous pensions and benefits of the legions of SEIU thugs that infest the byzantine bureaucracies that comprise the vast bulk of their oh-so-benevolent Big Government.
Makes me want to puke.

Would this make me a "socialist"?
It very well could. But more important, the things you list would create an economy that would be unsustainable and would collaspe in short order. Of course, explaining that to you is so far beyond your ability to understand it, I'm not going to bother. So in regards to the things you want, the answer is No.
.

BoBo' homeless? Who knew? You never hear her talk about it.

Kentuck, can you honestly believe that this idea could be sold to the general population of the United States? Be brutally honest with yourself. Paying people free money to lounge around? Really?
And then, equal to what? I think you're suggesting that everybody earns the same salary. Good luck with that one, too.
Stupid should burn.

Isn't this a violation of one of the principal tenets of Leninism?
We all know Lenin, the guy who's a hero of the primitives on Skins's island.
And Mao and Fidel and Mugabe and Idi Amin and Papa Doc and Che and other heroes of the primitives.
"He who does not work, does not eat."
Surely the primitives know that's what Lenin said, and others like him said similar.
Even Shelley 0bama said, during the presidential campaign of 2008, that in the 0bamareich, "everybody's going to have to work."
Come on, now. Are the primitives deaf, or something?

Yes people like kentuck actually believe that the majority of the people in the U.S. YEARN for what he proposes. In fact...if you were able to ask him...he'd more than likey tell you that he honestly believes that...besides the iron grip the Right has on the MSM...the reason that that Dems don't have a bigger majority in government is because they aren't to the far left enough in what they propose.

No.
You already are a socialist. Your socialistic opinions are the result, not the cause.

Socialist: Someone that wants everything for free without having to work for it.

The following is an exchange on the March 25 WSWS article by Tom Eley, “Behind the sellout of the struggle in Wisconsin.â€
The letter writer, Steven Dawes, is a shop steward from local 251 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) in Omaha, Nebraska.
...
"I’ve always backed socialism. Together with labor the team passed workers comp, unemployment insurance, and several other important worker protections. I’d be interested in any reply, update, correction, etc., you might have or publish.
Steven L Dawes"
http://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2011/03/dawe-m30.html
Of course the Big Guy wasn't a "shop steward". He ran repeatedly in local elections, always finishing last due to his unpopularity among the other drones in the sewage department.
But his active socialism was entertaining. Now, on his deathbed, he's polluting the DUmp with cute puppy threads.
-
This is a good bump.
It teaches an important lesson. Socialists were elected in 2008.
This thread was made before the November 2010 elections.
The socialist Democrats were still flush with victory...and it crashed.
Here we sit after a watershed election, Kentuck's Socialist agenda was resoundingly rejected.
Socialism was presented, tried and put down by Free People.
For all the cocky swaggering at DU...they are worse off than ever before.
-

Too bad the Big Guy doesn't work in my shop. He could be a steward. It's a job no one wants, because they have to listen to people bitch a lot, about the union, not the company.
-
"Would this make me a "socialist"?"
Maybe. But it damn sure makes you a collectivist. One that believes he is entitled to the fruits of the labor of others. You guys talk a big talk, until you become the "others". Look to the voices of your vaunted "intellectual" academia, they'll tell you its true. You know, some credentialed liberal academic.
Ask Jonathan Gruber.

55. Using todays political definition, yes
You support "the people" (government) controlling the way a private company schedules and pays its employees.
You support "the people" (government) controlling how much others can have and what they must use it for.
You support "the people" (government) taking from one and giving it to another whom you feel is more deserving.
You support "the people" (government) to pay for each others health care.
You support "the people" (government) to control the airwaves.
You are basically advocating for "the people" (government) to control how private businesses operate, how much individuals earn and what individuals must spend their earnings for. While not entirely socialism as defined, this style of government does have more in common with European style government than that of our own history, so many Americans equate it to socialism.
It is the future of our nation and we are living through the transformation.
Freedom is for chumps.
-
Freedom is for chumps. the strong, socialism is for the chumps.
-
I was paraphrasing the quotee who was saying in no uncertain terms he is against freedom

Other people's freedom.
Once he sees his own diminished, it will be too late.
