Title: Definition of "Primitive" Too Much Credit?
Post by: Revolution on July 23, 2010, 02:19:34 PM
I've been thinking on this for a little while. I know CC has been using the term to describe the DUmb little children at the other forum for quite a while, but I can't shake the feeling that we're giving them too much credit. I mean, actual primitives from the early ages struggled to survive, and used actual knowledge to do so.Somehow, I doubt DUmbasses could have done what early people did.

The discovered fire. The created the wheel. Do we really want to discredit their accomplishments by giving the Primitive name to the DUmp monkeys? I have a small problem with that. Not enough to worry about so much, but enough to mention it. I want to create a new name for them. Even if it is just me who uses it. Does anybody else like that idea? If so, we can brainstorm together. If not, I'll just have to think on what I wish to call them.

One can call them anything one wishes to call them; it's all copacetic.

Generally, the trend seems to be that if one sees the primitives as ridiculous or laughable, one calls them "DUmmies."  And if one looks at the DUmmies in a scientific anthropological sense, one calls them "primitives."

Whatever rocks one's chair works.

They've been called Primitives, DUmmies, DUmbasses, Goons on and on by alot of different people. Coin your own term, some will use it, some won't. It's a comfort thing to each person.

ETA, What Frank said  :-)

Alright then. I'll have to think on it since I believe both DUmmy, and Primitive are too much credit. These people make Malloy look moderate.

 :banghead:

The problem is, what one could call the DUmmies, or primitives, to more-accurately reflect what they are, would get conservativecave banned from the internet for excessive obscenities.

So one is compelled to use modest euphemisms instead.

I'm fairly intelligent, Frank. I'm sure I can come up with something. I just have to think a while. Problem is, we're not as hate filled as the leftists. They could rattle off a name for us in seconds. Takes decent people a bit more time.

What I call them varies upon my mood. Primitives - Dummies - DUmp monkeys - Liberals - libtards - 'morans' - Dems - Commies - Socialists...  Its all the same to me.

While I understand what you're saying, I think of these primitives on a different level.  These primitives are isolated on Skin's island believing themselves to be the most intelligent and advanced individuals to have ever existed.  They see things from outsiders which don't conform to their views, and because it's not what they desire, that means it's automatically inferior and to be replaced with what they are sure is best.  So to them, a well-insulated home needs to be replaced by a drafty hut; a lamp needs to be replaced by a jar of lightning bugs, etc...  But then, when the rest of the world outside their island doesn't bow down to their ways, this upsets the primitives, and they dance around the fire flapping their arms and making stange sounds in order to draw their own kind to them, which is where they find comfort.  The world passes them by, but the island is their comfort zone, isolated from those who just can't see and understand that the way of the primitives would make the rest of the world as happy as they are, as they define happiness.

Admirable analysis, sir.

I understand your explanation, USA. However, I have found what I am looking for, I believe. I wish to call them Giardia lamblia.

Giardia lamblia is a pathogenic flagellate of humans. It causes diarrhea and abdominal pain, along with a chronic fatigue syndrome that is otherwise asymptomatic and difficult to diagnose. The cysts are the most common means of spread of this organism. Giardia lamblia cysts have been spread via contaminated water and fomites.

I believe this is a perfect description of them. While this is an actual parasite, Reading what the lamblia post, I feel I have been punched in the stomach repeatedly, what they post is usually diarrhea, (of the mouth/keyboard) and it honestly tuckers a body out to ingest the tripe that is spewed on a day to day basis. Usually, we have the cure of brains/intelligence. However, sometimes it is just to much to stand. Skin's Island is full of giardia lamblia. Everyone is us, and those in the outside world is in danger of infection.

Therefore, I would like to christen those on the island with the name Giardia lamblia. The only term grotesque enough to describe them that I can find. You can also refer to them as "GL's," "These parasites," "This particular lamblia," or other variations of this parasite.

:)

T'is a good word  :-)

But be it that, primitive, DUmmie, or whatever - the remarkable thing isn't the label - the remarkable thing is that there is a group of people who deserve these labels, because as a whole, they are just....primitives*..

(*or moles - or a very small minority of sane Democrats marooned with the faceless lynch mob that constitutes most of DU.)

I think you'e on the right track, but need something a little more tongue-tripping than Giardia lamblia. Hmm...helminths, maybe? Some further variation on disease states, because they are a cancer to this country. Maybe carcinogens? Or how about tumors? So you could start out a thread "tumors discuss how to put their pants on" or some such. Or maybe just "growths"?....naw, somehow that last doesn't really work.

"DUmors"?

"DUmors" it is.

It just feels right.

So shall it be written, so shall it be done. All hail Godot for thinking on his feet. While simple, and to the point, it is also a perfect description.

The birth of "DUmors" is upon us!! May it stick in all of our vocabularies!

Well thank you Revolution, guys. Glad you like it. You were the one to come up with the overarching thought, though--disease.

I feel I should point out that I took your idea in a different direction--as we say in my work, I changed the "story" you were trying to tell. Your concentration was more on infection and parasitism within the disease idea; I went off into uncontrollable, destructive growth and also the automatic horror cancer is freighted with, ie, cancer and its attendant words are "buzz" words with quick effects on the mind. I hope I didn't go too far afield from your original idea--I mean I didn't want to hijack it.

And no, Gotod. I don't consider it a hijack of anything. You expounded on my "disease" brainwave. Very appropriate, and much to my liking.
