Oh my.

Thanks to our esteemed colleague lastparker, who found this.

franksolich was running all over Skins's island, trying to find out what the primitives were saying about the matter, and missed this.

Continuing the theme, Democrats shouldn't be wealthy....

Sen. Kerry docks yacht in R.I., saves on taxes

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/38378992/ns/politics /

BOSTON — Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry is docking his family's new $7 million yacht in neighboring Rhode Island, saving roughly $500,000 in Bay State taxes.

If the boat were docked at the couple's summer vacation home on Nantucket, they would be liable for $437,500 in one-time sales tax. They'd also have to pay $70,000 in annual excise taxes.

Instead, Rhode Island has repealed those taxes.

1. I'm unsure - are you saying this, or criticizing the media for doing so?

2. Nobody should be that wealthy.

And a family worth hundreds of millions, especially one so involved in "public service", should be evading taxes in their own state.

This is disgraceful, but indicative of the fundamental problem, and is not limited to either party.

4. In all honesty

If I had that much money, I am sure I would be doing the same thing.

Edited to add--I wouldn't HAVE a yacht, though, nor would I have a super extravagant wedding. But, I definitely would take advantage of every tax savings I could muster.

5. Democrats do not take a vow of Poverty.

Yep, they sure don't.  But they want the rest of us to.

6. No, they don't. Nor should they.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

If the Democrats want the rest of us to live in poverty, so too should they.

8. Their vow is *to* those in poverty...

...but this tends to be forgotten by our wealthiest leaders.

7. Should anyone be that wealthy?

Should we continue to reinforce economic systems that allow such disparity?

9. And we wonder why things are so crappy for the average American.

With multi-millionaires making decisions for us, it's no wonder.

NO ONE who can afford to go out and buy a $7 million yacht could possibly understand what the average American is faced with.

Anyone who has a summer vacation home on Nantucket is too far separated from the real needs and issues to be an effective representative.

This is why we need publicly financed elections. We've got to get the millionaires with all the money and connections OUT OF OUR GOVERNMENT. This isn't a slam against Kerry in particular, but it's pretty clear to me why things are so bad, the people making the decisions simply are not in a position to comprehend what today's average American is facing.

10. Does John Kerry EVER cease to disappoint?

It's like selling out in his genes. Thanks for pointing out another "doesn't walk the talk" Democrat.

Uh huh.

12. Doesn't the lion's share of the "family" money belong to his wife through the Heinz family fortune?

Is the yaht Kerry's or his wife's? Or is it a joint venture. Remember, in BIG MONEY marriage mergers, what is his is hers and what is hers is his isn't quite how it goes?

franksolich is really disappointed that Doug's stupid ex-wife hasn't shown up at this campfire, to defend the excesses of someone Doug's stupid ex-wife likes.

But it's early yet; maybe Doug's ex-wife is still asleep, and will barge in later.

The best we can hope for is that John Kerry will get seasick.

13. I think it should read, "Wealthy Democrats shouldn't behave like Republicans"

I think you need to look up the stats of those in the Senate and the Congress, you'll see the majority of the politicians who are wealthy are Democrats, and the wealthiest are Democrats.

And to top it all, boys and girls--the yacht was built in NEW ZEALAND, not Maine, not Michigan.  How's that hopey-changey shit working out for ya, putting ya'll back to work?

Some of the marine companies have been complaining about that.  I guess building one yacht could keep hundreds of people on their jobs.

Couldn't he find a builder in Massachussets of all places?  I CANNOT STAND JOHN F'IN KERRY.  Nobody's commented on this at the Dump since Friday.
