Are (some) older women supposed to be heavy?

When I was a young teenager, there were three categories of clothes sizes for females:

Misses - for young developed women

Juniors - for young women without curves

Womens - for women say about 40 and above - what used to be called a matron.

Now, I was a size 10 in my 20's, and now i am a size 18 or 20 or 18W or 20W. If I'd been this heavy when I was 20, I would have been worried. But is it possible that this is a healthy size and shape for me now that i am approaching 60?

I was dealing with some health issues that have recently been diagnosed and treated. I'm not as strong as I'd like to be, nor do I have the stamina I used to have. I am working out daily to regain my strength and stamina. My blood work is still all in order.

I know common knowledge says I should not weigh this much. However, are those statistics based on European stock women my age? Life expectancy numbers are distorted because they don't discount infant mortality. For example, life expectancy for a given population may be 50 because so many children die, but anyone who reaches 50 is likely to live to be 75. I'm wondering if the statistics that we use to determine the relationship between body mass and health are also too simplistic.

1. I used to think so.

I've gained 40+ pounds that wouldn't leave me no matter what diet or how much exercise I invested.

I'm going to a naturopath and have found my endocrine system is off balance. My adrenals are more than fatigued; they are shot. And the adrenal glands affect the entire system of glands including the pancreas (insulin) and thyroid. Go to a naturopath or endocrinologist to make sure everything is "working" fine.

I've also started the insulin resistant diet which means every time I eat a carb (e.g., fruit, potato, bread), I pair it with about twice the amount of protein (meat, nuts, dairy) to counteract the carb being stored as fat and not used as energy.

And to suppress my appetite, I finally bought a juicer and have a raw foods element to my daily diet. The combinations aren't that bad too.

I've lost and kept off 4 pounds for almost a month and I didn't think I could ever do that.

Of course one shouldn't discount the side-effects of pharmaceuticals.

But the primitives will anyway.

When I was younger....

Juniors....clothes for those without curves.

Misses....clothes for those with curves.

Womens...clothes for women who were over-weight...NOT for "women of a certain age"...

It's still that way.

I'm rapidly approaching 60  :bawl:, and if I was wearing a 20W ... I would constantly be in tears, and be seriously contemplating slicing my throat.

I have gained 60lbs since I graduated college...almost as much as what I gained when pregnant with both kids...I gained it all over, not one spot...yet I'm still wearing a 6 or an 8 in jeans or slacks. Tops are large or exlarge (it's the manufacturer's fault - tops are too small these days.  :uhsure: )

I'm diligently on a diet...not to get back to where I was in college because though I didn't have any type of eating disorder, my metabolism doesn't work that well these days. I will get back to a 4...at least for the tush...and it's much better for my bone structure as small-framed, light-colored eyes are at the highest risk for osteoporosis.

Because of so many people(liberals and their children) with horrendous eating habits, the governement is wanting to punish all.

If the government wants to regulate types of food...then they need to start with food stamps. Instead of giving "x" number of dollars to an individual per week/month, whatever it is....they should be giving out cards with specific things programmed into them. A certain number of gallons of milk, bread, pasta, vegetables, fruit, meats, eggs, etc. Specific foods and amounts, no alcohol allowed on it, a specific amount that is discretionary for pop, candy, and other junk food. It would certainly restrict their spending frivolously...and may even make some of them ticked enough to go out and get a job so that they can spend their "own" money.

This woman who thinks because she is almost 60, wearing a size 20W is "normal and healthy" is a perfect example, of why we see so many kids these days that are vastly overweight.

I was grocery shopping on Sunday evening. (now I will do a DU grocery paragraph). There was a father in the aisle with his two kids. The father was huge...tall and big. Looked like a linebacker for the GB Packers. But it was his kids. A boy and a girl...both appeared to be middle school age. The boy was about my height, and while not slim, was did not appear overweight. The poor girl though...bless her heart...that child had to have weighed 200lbs easy. My stomach was not as big as hers when I was 9 months pregnant! It's criminal to let a child get that overweight. To me, that is a much worse case of child abuse than a swat on the tush could ever be.

Instead of some of the other crap the government's sticking it's nose into...why don't they stick it back in the schools and fund mandatory gym class in all grades. Even in high school, I had it 4 days a week, every year. To graduate college, I had to have 4hrs of some type of physical education, which was at least 4 semester-long classes.

Well, let me make this as simple as I can for you:  You are obese, probably at the edge of what docs call morbidly obese, and you need to put down the frickin' spoon, stop buying ice cream as a dietary staple, and get up off your giant fat ass and burn some calories.  Eat less than 2000 calories a day, stay under 50 grams of fat of all types per day, move your big butt away from the computer, and you will SLOWLY begin to resemble human instead of a giant pile of uncooked dough in a mumu.

Alles klar?  Very good.  Now turn the computer off and go for a walk, no stops for street food allowed.

If they chose to live a lifestyle type other than sedentary, they might not encounter such problems.

What do I know though..Oh yeah, I'll never be a fat-ass because I eat somewhat healthy and get out and do shit every day.

DUmmies never cease to amaze.

The "DU Weight Loss/Maintenance Group" should be renamed "The Axis of Eat-All."

This was years ago, and it was in a left-wing throwaway rag of the time, the Lincoln Gazette, and so I'm not sure of the veracity of the fact stated, but anyway, it alleged that the "average" human generates 11 tons of excrement in his lifetime.

If so, many of the primitives have been "above average."

One imagines the gigantic primitive has generated a whole new Mount Everest of the stuff.

If the primitives were truly concerned for the environment--and the "planet" as a whole--the primitives would then eat less, shit less.
