I honestly believe, in the Shirley Sherrod matter, that we are witnessing a slow motion . . . .
. . . . lynching.
I do not place the blame with the Obama administration (as some of you will be typically quick to accuse me). I place the blame where it belongs: the right wing agents provocateur who cooked this up, edited the tape, and blasted the story into the media and into today's reality.
I do fault the administration for their knee-jerk reaction to it all, but they are FAR from the center of the story except to have clumsily allowed themselves to be used to make it all the more uglier by what has now happened in the life of this formerly anonymous and essentially good woman. I similarly fault the NAACP, but also commend them for their quick and righteous reversal.
The best outcome would be condemnation by the White House of every right wing actor with a hand in this, with a place of shame named specifically for Andrew Brietbart.
I mean no snark and this is one of the most serious posts I can recall making on DU. The right wing proves, as always, there are no limits on their pure ugliness.
Shirley Sherrod is a civilian. An ordinary person like you or me, trying to do good, do her job, and live a good life. Thank you, Shirley, for being you.

They talk about what a wonderful woman she was and all the good she has done. I've yet to see any records of hers, much like the elusive birth certificate and college transcripts of Obama.

2. here's what I think
I think they are tweaking the WH to see what the reaction will be. Will the WH take bait? Will the WH be suckered? Will anyone push back? How much humiliation can be twisted out of a trap, a lie?
Wise up, Rahm. Get a street fighter in there for strategy.
The White House took the bait and so did the NAACP.

7. Yep, that's what I find so mind-boggling.
All this talk about how he's a real hard-core street brawler.
What a fraud. The guy is a complete zero. Smart as a brick, as tough and unrelenting as a dandelion seed, floating on a breeze.

That point makes this story all the uglier - and all the easier to judo back on them

They USED a civilian black woman, a career worker out in the trenches, as far from an insider as can be imagined in government service and ASSASSINATED her reputation. All for some minor political advantage that only they can fathom.
The best strategy, in my view, is to reinstate Shirley, set her out as a hero, and then go hard and fast in STRONG, LONG, and PUBLIC condemnation of the bad actors. A few minutes of skillful demagoguery from Obama at a presser with Miss Sherrod at his side, would play PERFECTLY to demonize the perps.
Quite the contrary stinky, Sherrod has come out smelling like a rose compared to the NAACP and the WH.
It still pisses me off that they are blaming Fox News. Fox barely covered this before her resignation occurred.

I dunno.
I always thought the Democrats, liberals, and pre-primititves, with the complicity of the news media, lynching Richard Nixon will be regarded in history as one of the most ugly events of the Republic.
Not to say Richard Nixon was a saint, but rather to say the man never got his day in the court of informed public opinion.
That was a lynching, pure and simple.
I dunno what the sparkling husband primitive's yammering about.
