my kids are leaving the country in January, hopefully for good.... (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x8787659)
It's actually kid, I suppose, since I only have one daughter. But she and her husband-- my son-in-law-- are arranging to immigrate to northern Europe, starting with a six month acculturation curriculum in Denmark that begins in January. They've been working on this for the last couple of years. She's 30 and he's 29, both very intelligent and well educated, both with quite useful professions. He has dual citizenship in an EU nation, which makes it somewhat easier for them, I gather. Both are fed up with the U.S. and are planning to immigrate totally. I'm really excited for them!
My partner and I will be leaving too, if everything goes according to plan-- it's just going to take us a little longer. Unfortunately, we're at the end of our careers instead of the beginning, so we're hanging on until we retire, assuming, of course, that retirement is still an option in six or seven years. We're looking at Central and South American countries though, where we'll have to be content living as expats rather than immigrating. Sucks to be old, I guess. (Actually we're fine with that.)
None of us expect any other government to be significantly less venal and corrupt than the U.S. It's just that we'll be "outsiders" without a direct personal stake any longer-- those venal and corrupt governments will be using someone else's name to justify their behavior, which we hope will at least be reprehensible on a smaller scale. This just isn't our country any longer.
How's that hope & change working out for you? :evillaugh:

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha liberals own the govt and they still wanna leave. :lmao:

A portion of the taxes you pay in Denmark goes to the Luthern Church. Guess that "separation of church and state" thingy isn't all that important afterall.

Typical Liberal...hes going to take his fat...undeserved pension from the college he spits propaganda at...and head town to some little South American Banana Republic where the dollar to peso ratio will let him live like the king he thinks he is.
FOAD Mike...I hope there is a revolution i the country you choose and they toss your ass in a deep dark dungeon.

Whatever happened to the King of Portugal (Twixvoy)? I haven't seen any of his misadventures posted lately.

This statement demonstrates their lack of a spine as good as any I've seem. The USA is an evil country with their name attached, so they'll move to smaller country that's not quite as bad, but since they'll be living there as expats, it won't be their name attached with the acts being "reprehensible on a smaller scale." No mention of trying to do anything to stop these acts, not willing to place themselves in harm's way, or to do anything more than verbally claim they're glad it's not as bad. I'm sure the people on whom these "reprehensible on a smaller scale" acts are being visited are glad that bug boy is at least aware of them, though he isn't willing to pick up a weapon and place himself in any danger to do anything about it.

"Partner." Figures.

That's what I was thinking.

"Partner." Figures.
Wondered about that. Does mike_c like the sausage?
Does he know most of those South and Central American countries are fiercely Catholic?

"Partner." Figures.
Yeah, if I ever use that term to describe my girlfriend or wife, I'll give you my address so you can come beat the crap out of me.
However, I thought Mike_C was a hetero dude. Our own Lisa a/k/a Liberal Historian at DU was "friends" with him at one time.

Could be a switch-hitter.

10. Consider Panama. Lots of good programs/benefits

Of course. Wonder if elderly immigrants who shoulder their way in get any?

I don't have a problem with him leaving the country. He'll continue to live like an elitist with his elevated income value. In time some revolutionary group will kidnap his ass and demand a huge ransom. No one will pay it and the kidnappers will bury him in a rain forest to be devoured by the family of bugs he tortured while plying his trade.

Some very telling statements:

Yep. Most every other country on earth has REQUIREMENTS to emigrate, the most important one being the ability to be a useful contributor to the society, ie: the ability to earn money and pay INTO the pot, rather than loaf about and suck from it.

Which just proves that nothing will ever make them happy.

As has been demonstrated over & over again, the only thing that makes the DUmmies happy is to be in a perpetual state of unhappiness.

Shhhh....
I was baptized Lutheran and hold an non-descript 'executive' position within the VRWC. We'll be waiting...
Jest sayin'...

Well, he does have a daughter soooo....
Some colleges do have awesome chemistry programs though...

Well, my question is, if the mike_c primitive loathes America so much and leaves (which he probably won't but one can hope), will he leave his generous capitalist-created pension behind?
Or is he planning on hanging on to that part of America, which he so loathes?
Hypocrite.

You're right Frank. We need a law stating that no tax-payer funded pensions can be accessed while living in another country. :evillaugh:

That just pisses me off, "ex-pats" who leave because they loathe this country, but who at the same time insist upon taking their "benefits" with them--the income, the right to vote, the blue-and-gold passport.
It's one thing to go and live in another country because of one's job, or because of curiosity about what it's like, but it's quite another thing to leave because one "loathes" America.

I'm thinking 'late bloomer.'

First thing I thought of as well. Wonder what happened to Twixy?
As for Mike, the cultural paradises of Cuba and Venuzuela should be tops on the list.

That tool will probably jump to Venezuela just in time for the civil war to break out then demand the US military come save his fat ass

Probably wouldn't need to, your wife would do it herself. I certainly would let my husband know how I felt.

What can I say...uh...how 'bout, "Make it so # One."

Something tells me she will take care of that little task quite well without any outside involvement necessary. :evillaugh:
As for me... I don't call Mrs. Perky "partner"... I call her boss and I darn well better like it if I know what is good for me. :-)
