Paycheck Fairness Act - Amends the portion of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 (FLSA) known as the Equal Pay Act to revise remedies for and enforcement of prohibitions against sex discrimination in the payment of wages to:
(1) add non-retaliation requirements;
(2) increase penalties; and
(3) authorize the Secretary of Labor (the Secretary) to seek additional compensatory or punitive damages. Requires the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs to train EEOC employees and affected individuals and entities on matters involving wage discrimination. Authorizes the Secretary to make grants to eligible entities for negotiation skills training programs for girls and women. Directs the Secretaries of Labor and Education to issue regulations or policy guidance to integrate such training into certain programs under their Departments. Directs the Secretary to provide for certain studies, information, national summit, and guidelines, awards, and assistance for employer evaluations of job categories based on objective criteria. Establishes the Secretary of Labor's National Award for Pay Equity in the Workplace. Amends the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to require the EEOC to collect certain pay information. Directs:
(1) the Commissioner of Labor Statistics to collect data on woman workers in the Current Employment Statistics survey;
(2) the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs to use specified types of methods in investigating compensation discrimination and in enforcing pay equity; and
(3) the Secretary to make accurate information on compensation discrimination readily available to the public.

I think it was some liberal wet dream to make it easier to sue companies for pay discrimination based on gender. It was much touted as being needed by the DUmmies, but so far I haven't heard of any companies being sued under it.

I'm against it as well. I suspicious of anything mandating equal wages for all regardless of possible mitigating factors.

Smells like affirmative action to me so NO, I am against it.
If I don't like the wage I am being paid, I'll look for another job. I don't view myself as a victim of circumstances, like DUmmies do.

Here silly me, I thought all this had been settled years ago.
First full time job I had was in the 1960's. I complained that the guy working next to me was getting 10 cents an hour more them me. We were both hired the same day BUT, as a man he had a family to support.
Interesting as a former class mate of mine who was also hired that day and a widow with 2 little kids and sole support was also getting less then the man. Her Hubby had died in an unpopular war at that time. Most Shamefull conduct of that Company.

Sounds like you are from the more sane part of the family.
That's because I moved out of my hometown. Everyone else in my family has never lived in a big city... ever. They believe everything they read in the newspaper or hear on television.
I got my mom to start watching Glenn Beck after work. I guess I can applaud that. She's not saved, but she at least understands some of the things I tell her about unions.

No, you or perhaps me flipped this.
When I asked my manager why someone hired the same day to do the same job as I was and getting more money was told that the Man had children and family to support.
When I pointed out my friend also had a family to support I was told, unbelievably that since she was an attractive woman she could find a MAN to support her.
This is the reason that later on that equal pay for equal work took off for woman's groups.
This took years to fight, it was in professional work as trying to break through the glass ceiling.
Today we still have very good professionals that have a difficult time getting around the Good Old Boys network.
I was reading about the Roman Gladiators and found to my surprise that in the 3 rd century it became illegal for woman to become Gladiators as the Empire was concerned with the huge number of woman that wanted to fight.
I believe this was based on the law at the time that a professional fighter could retire after a set number of fights and was awarded large sums of money and land.
Male fighters were now up against females and because they were use to fighting other men their natural inclination to not harm woman caused them to loose the edge and the females moved in for the kill.
The Empire saw these woman gaining money and influence and had to put a stop to the silly unwomanly conduct.
