Fire Chief Dean Klinger told the Skagit Valley Herald the men put about four gallons of methanol in a 55-gallon barrel in the parking lot Sunday night, sat on top and lit it for a "barrel ride."
Klinger says, "Apparently it was supposed to slide across the parking lot like a rocket. Instead, it blew up."
The men were responsive when paramedics arrived at Funk Racing. They were taken to a local hospital, then flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with severe burns.

Sedro-Wooley?

Yup. I didn't even have to click the link and I knew that's where it would be.

Must be "stupid month" in Washington. Seems a couple of kids stole some OBA cannisters and were trying to "huff" them (although you can't get high from it), then threw them on a fire. They're both in critical condition, and if/when they recover, they'll be busted for stealing government property (they were both sailors).

Had a DC3 in my shop throw an activated OBA canister in the trash one time with a bunch of flammables. Lets just say much hilarity ensued. Unfortunately I was on leave at the time and missed it. Naturally he was NRP on his next set of marks.

If those guys straddled that damned 55 gallon drum, thinking it was going to "slide around the parking lot like a rocket" and it blew up, we may have a couple of Darwin Award winners.
You can't procreate if you don't have any nuts left.

We should submit it to Mythbusters...
