Why in the hell is BP trying to shut off the well?
There is obviously some damage to the pipeline below the surface.
They finally got tight cap on the well and now they want to risk ****ing it up?
Why not just continue to collect the oil using the tight cap until the relief wells are completed?

2. I don't think anyone would demand they cap it if they said
it might make the situation worse.

5. They are then free to use the relief well as there next producer.
this must be the biggest find in half a century.

9. My understanding is that the relief well is being drilled to
plug up this well for good. At that point, this particular well will be filled with cement and abandoned. The relief wells are not intended to produce oil. That does not mean that they would leave this whole area alone---I am sure they are salivating to get a good well into that oil reservoir.

I am beyond words.

Remember DUmmies. BP is doing nothing without being told what to do by Teh Won. He has complete authority over everything that is being done. :whatever:

I am confused.

What the hell??

They aren't called "DUmmies" for nothing....
They are the offspring of the orginial dope smokin', acid droppin', free lovin', "peace, love, dope", hippies, so we can now put to rest the rumor that those drugs are/were "harmless"....

Agreed--I felt a few brain cells dying as I read that. :censored:

It all makes perfect sense when you remember the Oministration's chief motto: "Never let a crisis go to waste."

Ok how about this idea for dumbest post ever.
Obama WANTS BP to go bankrupt. WHY>>>
We have a lean on the company, once they loose the company we take over.
Since BP is also in charge of the Alakan oil fields, the Obama administration now has, controls and owns the Alaskan oil fields.
Nice move to hog tie Sara Polin and a threat to the moneyed Repubs. that own the mid -and south western wells. Not to mention the hundreds and hundreds of abandoned oil rigs off shore.
Does BP own any wells in the middle East, Africa or Asia? Now we own them.
Brilliant way to assume control of the worlds oil, --- only 11 lives, physical lives lost, no war, -----Shit happens not our fault, none of this happend by American aggression, just business as usual.

Vesta, actually, that's not even remotely dumb of an idea.

Wow. What a day this is shaping up to be.

The end is near....yes it is....it just pulled up in the end of my driveway....I got to go mow the lawn.

Ok...now that you all have made fun of dumb statements....I'm going to ask what may be a dumb question, but honestly, if I knew the answer I wouldn't be asking...
This morning on Fox News, there was a reporter on, who is down in the Gulf area, with all these pipes that he and Home Depot put together to show a generalized idea of not only how it was fixed and will get fixed (the concrete fill), but the pipes to the side that have "hoses" hooked up to them going up to tankers on the surface to deliver oil from 13,000 feet below the ocean floor. Ok, I understood that part....basically.
My question is....if they have been able to attach hoses from 2 sides out of the cap system...to still harvest the oil....why aren't they just going to continue to get the oil this way? There seems to be a huge oil field there, we need the oil, so why not?

Have faith....."The One" will tell us all we need to know.
In other words....Hell, I don't know either....but I think Vesta is much to close to the truth for my comfort.

We have had a similar discussion here at the house...M and I, Runnin' Buddy and her husband, my son and one of his best friends who is a poli sci major at UT who is very conservative.
We were wondering how, with all the safety features, and backup upon backup safety features on this rig...just how did they all happen to fail...AT ONCE?!?! And no one knows why?
We all kind of came to the conclusion that it was a "terrorist" act....but the question is...who was the terrorist?
We had thought either mid-east, Greenpeace, or some other environmental crazies...
I have to admit...Vesta's idea may be the most likely scenario. It would certainly explain why Obama didn't pay much attention to it for weeks...until he was forced to by public outcry.
Very scary if it's possible.

I read an article in one of those off the wall sites that said there were Chinese mini-subs operating in the Gulf that did it. Didn't the Chinese buy rights to drill for oil in Cuban waters awhile back? Maybe they wanted to save it all for themselves and Cuba.
I can think as deep, as dark and as stooopid as any DUmmie if I try hard enough.

Nooooo it was Nork mini's that did it not the Chinese. :-)
I'm inclined to believe they drilled into a really high pressure bubble of gas & oil that what little protection they did have couldn't handle. They're drilling in way deep water and I don't think they really were prepared for what they found.

What BP has in place right now is about the industrial equivalent of what you saw the reporter having. The gulf is prone to the odd hurricane or 2 every summer. What they have now is tenuous and temporary and not totally within their control. They'll cap this well off to ensure it never leaks again and then drill a new one close by with some major top of the line blowout prevention measures in place. After all, they have to pay for all this capping, restoration and government led extortion.

I think you're right....and that bubble of gas came to the surface, caught fire and all hell broke loose.

Thanks for answering me. And for not making fun of me for asking - :blowkiss:
The "relief" well is to help block the current one? And then a new one will be dug? Or is that going to be prevented because of no more deep water drilling, if Obama has his way?
-

Well if you think about it, all those companies he got the largest donations from are now under the government's thumb. A little bit of too big to fail with a generous side of Chavez, especially considering the legislation that just passed allowing the feds to pretty much take over any industry they want. Congress just neutered themselves and they don't even know it. The election can't come soon enough and when the R's take control we better damn well reverse this crap.

Right now they're drilling 2 wells trying to intercept the leaking well to plug it. #2 is a backup in case they screw up something the first time around. I could easily see them using #2 as a production well if they wanted to if they plug the gusher with the first well. You know, since it's all drilled and everything already....

Ok. Now I understand it a bit better.
Thanks, Darlin' ... :blowkiss:

Only one problem with vesta's scenario: Conocophilips is the largest oil producer in Alaska, not BP or any of their subsidiaries.

BP is bigtime North Sea oil, or was until this blowout. They've sold a big chunk of their assets there to pay for the Gulf cleanup.
