BANGOR, Maine — The first family will spend next weekend vacationing on Mount Desert Island, according to U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree.
President Barack Obama and his family are scheduled to arrive Friday, July 16, and stay through Sunday, July 18.
Information about where the family would stay and the sights they might take in while visiting Maine was not available Friday night. The visit is a personal family vacation and no public appearances are scheduled, Pingree said.
“What an honor that the Obama family has chosen Maine for vacation when they could have gone anywhere in the country,†she said. “I think the Obamas will really enjoy the quiet woods, beautiful coast, wonderful people and everything else that brings thousands of families here every year.â€
While White House officials were mum about where on the island the first family would stay, Obama has political connections on MDI. George Mitchell, U.S. special envoy for Middle East peace, owns a home in Seal Harbor. Mitchell and his wife, Heather, have two children, Andrew, 12, and Claire, 9. The Obama children, Malia and Sasha, are 12 and 9, respectively.

So how many actual days has Obama spent in the White House since he took office??? Seems he's out more than he's in. Sorry that the people in ME will have to endure the media crush. Since this is only three days I suppose he will head to the Vineyard next month to get more rest. He must be really tired from all his hard work.

Oh No, now Maine is again prone to pollution from politicians Bush 1 & in this case the top one Mr Obama.
dedalus you have an idea; but since OBama got scolding on his fiscal policies during the G-8, G-20 summit in Toronto in June. Surely not all Obama fault, still it's likely difficult time getting political asylum for fear of the huge Wall St, Banking, Insurance, Financier...Rip-Off compounded by Bail Out is hard to quarantine, even though he could be at home in a 5 star posh haven in Canada.

Damn, I don't know why all you guys are so upset. He's done a lot for this country. All the nails he's put in this country's coffin, he must be exhausted. :sarcasm:
Point being, he has indeed done a lot to cripple the economy for a good while. His big focus now is Cap & Trade, and I would bet you all the money I have that it passes.. Of course it angers the public that he's going on yet another vacation, but what the hell can we do about it? Absolutely nothing.

Much better to say they will be going to Acadia National Park.....which sounds like Yellowstone....than to say they are going to Bar Harbor(Bah Hahbah)... a place that has been associated with very "old money" for well over a hundred years. ::)

Visit the Gulf Coast? Nah, all that oil...nasty. Maybe Cape Kennedy,,,,nah, people will ask why NASA is now muslim outreach, job one and remember he was gonna get bin Ladin first thing.....no result.....maybe back to Hawaii....nah, people are talking at long last about Frank Marshall Davis' influence on him, and there's no way to say it was really Charles Nelson Reily....maybe Maine! About a month ago, he and his various entourages/hangers-on, along with the state pols, were in Macon, MO.
Had traffic screwed up for 6 hours, and this is a very rural place.

Don't care how hard they try they will never make a silk purse out of those sows.

Anytime he's up in this area, he's ****ed traffic up royally because he lands at Pease. One can only hope he lands at Brunswick or in Portland.
