Presiding over a flatlined economy, soaring unemployment, unprecedented ecological disaster, diplomatic debacles, trillions in new debt and countless unpopular votes, Democrats in D.C. rightly fear November. But with immigration and border violence dominating the campaign, just imagine the pants-filling terror Arizona democrats are experiencing.
Earlier this week, doomed Dem representatives Giffords, Kirkpatrick and Mitchell begged their beloved Obama to drop his futile lawsuit against Arizona's wildly popular immigration law. Today, doomed Dem gubernatorial candidate Terry Goddard is pleading with another Dem to stop the economic war he declared on his own state.
In the latest rift to open up among Democrats over the immigration issue, Attorney General Terry Goddard is asking Congressman Raúl Grijalva to withdraw his support for an economic boycott...
“You have told the media that you would like to change minds here in Arizona through a boycott,†Goddard wrote in the letter. “From what I have seen, the Governor and the Legislature don't seem to care about Arizona's economic life blood. A boycott would only hurt Arizona.â€
He implored Grijalva to join with him “in calling on businesses across America to give Arizona a chance, and help us to rebuild our economy instead of engaging in hurtful boycotts.â€
Grijalva, who was in town for an event this morning to draw more local artists to the state to serve as social change agents, countered that it was unfair to single him out as the reason organizations have opted out of Arizona.
“By indicating I’m the sole person responsible, kind of leaves the legislative leadership and the governor off the hook,†he said, adding those opposed to the legislation would have sought other venues anyway.
Six months ago, Goddard was the favorite for the governor's office. Six months from now, he'll be cursing his ersatz allies for destroying his last chance at his dad's old job.
UPDATE: Terry Goddard, Man of Action! Not only did he write Grijalva, he also penned a letter to President Obama hisself. "Please do your job Mr. President! My career depends on it!"

I have to wonder how many folks are actually boycotting the state.
